No anno, porm, de 1679, quando Carlos II casou com uma infanta de Frana, na festa do casamento, no foi possivel reunir mais de tres companhias para virem representar na crte. Neste periodo de decadencia e desprezo um unico escriptor trabalhou por amparar o vacillante theatro: Solis, o eloquente historiador da conquista do Mexico, dedicou tambem ao theatro a sua brilhante imaginao, polida agudeza, e vigoroso estilo.
