Item Description: Villard, 1997. Hardcover. Book Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine DJ. First Edition Stated. Villard 1997 First Edition Stated New/Fine DJ Tiny felt pen dot on lower page edges. Three college coeds have been brutally murdered, and the city of Chicago is panic-stricken. The strangulation and ritual eye-gouging in each case point to the police's greatest nightmarea serial killer. Detective David Gold calls in Dr. Susan Shader, noted psychiatrist and criminal profiler, to help with the case. Susan is also psychic, and her second sight plays a crucial role in helping to identify the killer. But matters take an unexpected turn when the suspect commits suicide and the carnage continues. Digging deeper, Susan uncovers a startling connection between the murder victims and, in so doing, puts her own life and that of her six-year-old son in mortal danger. Glass, a pseudonym, effectively builds the suspense through an unusual and engaging cast of characters in this well-crafted tale. A sound choice for all mystery collections.-Maria A. Perez-Stable, Western Michigan Univ. Libs., Kalamazoo 1997 From Kirkus ReviewsA serial killer is stalking Chicago coeds. So far, he's murdered and mutilated three, and neither Detective David Gold nor his consultant, psychic psychiatrist Dr. Susan Shader, has a clue about his identity. But with the fourth victim, an inoffensive housewife who has no obvious parallels with the three students, comes a break in the case--though one that leads to a disastrously mistaken arrest--and the fifth killing, of a University of Chicago dropout, cracks it wide open. Now at last Susan's gift of second sight, coupled with Gold's detective work, is enough to finger the killer just as he's reaching out for his next victim. Despite some streaks of purple prose (``It was easy to see that her long legs led to a rich, sensual pelvis'') and some schoolboy errors (an old-time psychic is hailed for having predicted the Lindbergh kidnapping and the death of Hindenburg years after the facts), the search for the killer is steadily engrossing. But once the perp slips through official fingers and takes his revenge on Susan by striking at her weakest point, the case turns hackneyed, overwrought, and toothless to anybody who believes the claim that this will be only the first of Susan's adventures. Still, Glass, whose pseudonym allegedly conceals a bestselling author, knows how to keep you reading through all the complaints. (First printing of 50,000) -- 1997, Kirkus Associates, LP. Item Description: Nightscape Press, Llp, United States, 2012. Paperback. Book Condition: New. 203 x 127 mm. Language: English Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****. Edgar is a ghost cursed to spend his nights at Sunfall Manor, an apartment complex that was once a farmhouse in the flatlands of Nebraska. Every night he must move through five different dwellings, haunted by the living--a drunken and paranoid writer, an abused housewife, a colder-than-ice web-mistress, a two-bit drug dealer, and a crazy old man who plays with puppets--trying to unlock the secrets of who he is. But tonight is different. The lost souls of Sunfall Manor are ready to give up the ghost, and the past is ready to open its cold, unforgiving arms. Sunfall Manor is a gem of a story that reminds me of Sherwood Anderson s Winesburg, Ohio . vignettes of lives lived and lost with touches of sadness, regret, and vengeance. A tale sure to send more than a few shivers up your spine . and your soul. -Rick Hautala, author of Indian Summer and Little Brothers Any horror fan who s properly awake has been following the crazily productive visionary exactitude of Peter Giglio. He slings plainsong toughness pressurized by pop-eyed mania. Sunfall Manor s not his debut, though it s his debut masterpiece: A cold-trance-inducing, five-click merry-go-round about a rundown dwelling in the flatlands that feels more like a schizoid colony in outer space. This thing should be a major film, though we ll have to wake up Kubrick to do it right. A work of art that you ll be judged for missing. -Eric Shapiro, author of The Devoted and It s Only Temporary A lesser thinker might have been content with a haunted house story. A lesser storyteller might have been content with a tale of discovery, or perhaps of ghostly revenge. But Peter Giglio has more up his sleeve than ghosts and creepy old houses. He s even got more than mere philosophy. -Bram Stoker Award-winning author Joe McKinney, from his introduction Let Peter Giglio s odd protagonist, Edgar, take you on a surreal tour of the mysterious Sunfall Manor with its intriguing but flawed residents. Giglio s prose is highly accessible and very engaging, his story line equally compelling. This is Giglio playing at the top of his game, shooting and making all 3s. Highly recommended. -Gene O Neill, author of The Burden of Indigo and Operation Rhinoceros Hornbill Peter Giglio s Sunfall Manor is a gripping ghost story that will possess your mind like a crazed poltergeist. Psychological horror at its best. -Jeremy C. Shipp, Bram Stoker nominated author of Vacation and Cursed A powerful, moving, intimate look into private lives we would rather deny, but all have lived, in one way or another. Giglio s writing is clear, insightful, and fueled with a potent and intoxicating intimacy. To read Sunfall Manor is to take a poetic journey through truths, falsehoods, hopes, dreams and failures that comprise the human condition. And it s truly haunting. -Trent Zelazny, author of Butterfly Potion Haunting and unforgettable, Sunfall Manor is Mr. Giglio s finest work to date. Period! This vivid and revealing shocker begs to be made into a movie and further cements him as the rising star that he is. -David Bernstein, author of Amongst the Dead and Tears of No Return Sunfall Manor is as much a character study of lost and damaged souls as it is a horror story. Giglio is an excellent writer who is not afraid to show the bleak human condition at its ugliest. Well done! -Tracy L. Carbone, co-chair of New England Horror Writers, author of The Soul Collector, and Bram Stoker nominated editor of Epitaphs. Bookseller Inventory # APC9781938644054

Item Description: Createspace, United States, 2015. Paperback. Book Condition: New. 229 x 152 mm. Language: English Brand New Book ***** Print on Demand *****. This is a play written for radio but would suitably serve as a staged play. It sets to highlight the subtle new trend that is recently becoming evident amongst educated couples in emerging developing economies. The previously traditional conservative chauvinistic denial that had husbands out-rightly refusing to let their spouses pursue every twist and turn in their preferred public careers, has been unnoticeably replaced with a highly misconstrued make-believe tacit cooperation. It presents the modern wife with hopes that are still quite limited by her very own, age old self-shackling desire to be the good wife/mother firstly, and not practically her spouse s economic and intellectual inability to dictate to her. He is limited to exploiting her only by relying solely on this one over-powering desire of hers. In a modern African cosmopolitan suburb resides two couples, who are very close flat neighbours. The younger couple is a newly married pair, while the much older couple already has early teenage children. Though both men are gainfully employed, their equally well educated spouses are uncomfortably unemployed housewives. The articulated relationship the middle-aged couple had willingly shared with a highly principled civil society worker culminated in a genuine praxis that jarred both couples older and newer marriages with a reasonably honest intellectual quake of sincerity. The experience is a rude awakening for both couples and a basis for the supposedly superior masculine gender to learn first hand that indeed what is good enough for the goose is good enough for the gander. The play is about only two of these couples normally quiet mornings. Bookseller Inventory # APC9781506144863

Item Description: Fawcett, 1992. Paperback. Book Condition: Very Good. 0449147444 From Publishers Weekly Susan Henshaw's family winter vacation in Yellowstone National Park is quickly overwhelmed by the Ericksen clan's reunion at the same snowed-in hotel. When an effigy of domineering Grandfather Ericksen is thrown into a geyser and the curmudgeon himself is murdered, Henshaw is called upon to play amateur sleuth. Soon another body--that of the gay lover of one of the Ericksen sons--is found frozen in the snow. What follows is a genre mystery with a myriad of flaws. The Ericksens are portrayed as a dysfunctional family, and so readers must suffer through pages of psychobabble. And although a storm's stranding the guests in the park without police assistance is plausible, why should housewife Henshaw run the investigation when a park ranger on site has police training and another guest is a former police detective? Nor does Wolzien ( We Wish You a Merry Murder ) do Yellowstone justice; she uses the isolated winter wilderness as a plot device but neglects to use it for texture. Finally, the motivations she ascribes to the killer are contradictory: having killed ostensibly to keep a favorite family member near, the murderer is willing to let that relative go to prison as the fall guy in the murders. Copyright 1992 Reed Business Information, Inc. Book Description The Henshaw family vacation at Yellowstone National Park turns tragic when George Ericksen -- whose family has been befriended by the Henshaws -- is found murdered at the foot of Old Faithful. When amateur sleuth Susan Henshaw takes the case, a web of twisted emotions and buried secrets quickly unfolds, and Susan finds that everyone had a reason to kill George. But there can only be one killer . . . can't there? Rare books make Fine Gifts. Quality, Value, Experience. Bookseller Inventory # BX-000125.U
