The book Religious Militancy and Security in South Asia deals with the entire gamut of religious militancy as it manifests itself in South Asia. It brings to the forefront the issue that militancy in the region of South Asia has its own realities and dynamics and is not necessarily religious in nature it is more a part of the agenda for political ends. 230 pp. Bookseller Inventory # 61061

The present work corrects the distortion and draws the picture of the minorities role in India's freedom struggle in colours true to history. Almost all the minorities Muslims Sikhs Parsis Christians etc. have been given their due space here. 215 pp. Bookseller Inventory # 59172

Item Description: OUP Pakistan, Pakistan, 2009. Hardback. Book Condition: New. 234 x 156 mm. Brand New Book. This volume is based on extracts from the diaries of Air Marshal (Retired) M. Asghar Khan and Tehrik-i-Istiqlal s record of events from 19 December 1971 to 12 January 1975. The events, experiences and reflections of the author provide a full picture of his political journey and his perception of the events that have contributed to the crises being faced by Pakistan today. M. Asghar Khan has been one of Pakistan s leading political figures over the last forty years and has made his mark as a man of integrity and standing in political circles. He formed his own political party, the Tehrik-i-Istiqlal, in 1972 and continued to oppose dictatorial and autocratic rule through the difficult years of Ayub Khan, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, and Ziaul Haq. This book serves to outline his efforts to propel Pakistan towards democracy, and completes the picture of his life in politics presented in his earlier work We ve Learnt Nothing from History, published in 2005. He ends the book on a note of hope that Pakistan has a bright future and it is incumbent on all citizens to continue to work for peace and harmony, root out corruption, and differentiate between right and wrong. Excerpt: David Coleman Headley, formerly known as Daood Sayed Gilani, (born June 30, 1960) is a Chicago-based Pakistani American, who conspired with Lashkar-e-Taiba and ex-military officers to launch the 2008 Mumbai attacks and other terrorist activity. He changed his Muslim name to a Christian name to hide his Pakistani-American identity to make travel to India easier. Between 2002 and 2005, Headley made several trips to Pakistan for terror training, and was in fact working as a Drug Enforcement Administration informant at the same time. Between 2006 and 2008, he did five spying missions in Mumbai scouting targets for the 2008 Mumbai attacks on behalf of Lashkar-e-Taiba and Pakistani ex-military officers. The attacks killed 168 people. In 2009, Headley traveled to Britain to help plan an attack against a Danish newspaper that had published cartoons of the prophet Muhammad. He was arrested in October 2009 on his way to Pakistan. Since his arrest and guilty plea, Headley has been cooperating with U.S. and Indian authorities, and has yielded much information about his associates. There is intense interest in India in Headley's story, as it is the latest discovery in the unfolding saga of the devastating Mumbai attacks of November 26, 2008, known in India as 26/11. U.S. authorities gave Indian investigators direct access to Headley, but there was suspicion in India about why his name was not shared by the United States. Daood Gilani was born in Washington, D.C., where his father, Sayed Salim Gilani, worked for the Voice of America. His Maryland-born mother, (Alice) Serrill Headley (1939-2008), worked as a secretary at the Pakistani embassy in Washington at the time of his birth and was th. 100 pp. Englisch. Excerpt: Anwar al-Awlaki (also spelled Aulaqi; Arabic: ¿ Anwar al-'Awlaqi; born April 22, 1971 ) in Las Cruces, New Mexico) is a dual citizen of the U.S. and Yemen, of Yemeni descent. He is an Islamic lecturer, spiritual leader, and former imam who has inspired Islamic terrorists against the West. According to U.S. officials, he is a senior talent recruiter and motivator, who has also become 'operational' as a planner and trainer, 'for al-Qaeda and all of its franchises'. The U.S. Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence warned that al-Awlaki 'is extraordinarily dangerous, committed to carrying out deadly attacks on Americans and others worldwide'. With a blog, a Facebook page, and many YouTube videos, he has been described as the 'bin Laden of the Internet'. Al-Awlaki's sermons were attended by three of the 9/11 hijackers. He reportedly met privately with two of them in San Diego. Investigators suspect al-Awlaki may have known about the 9/11 attacks in advance. In 2009, he was promoted to the rank of 'regional commander' within al-Qaeda, according to U.S. officials. His sermons were also attended by accused Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan. U.S. intelligence intercepted at least 18 emails between Hasan and al-Awlaki in the months prior to the Fort Hood shooting, including one in which Hasan wrote: 'I can't wait to join you .' After the shooting, al-Awlaki praised Hasan's actions. In addition, 'Christmas Day bomber' Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab said al-Awlaki was one of his al-Qaeda trainers, who met with him and was involved in planning or preparing his attack, and provided religious justification for it, according to U.S. officials. In March 2010, al-Awlaki said in a videotape that jihad against America was binding upon every able Muslim. Al-Awlaki's targeted killing was approved by U.S. President Barack Obama, with the consent of the U.S. National Security Council by April 2010, making him the first U.S. citizen ever placed on the CIA targe 104 pp. Englisch. Excerpt: Javad-ud Daula, Arif Jang, Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, KCSI (also Sayyid Ahmad Khan) (Urdu: ) (October 17, 1817 - March 27, 1898), commonly known as Sir Syed, was an Indian educator and politician, and an Islamic reformer and modernist. Sir Syed pioneered modern education for the Muslim community in India by founding the Muhammedan Anglo-Oriental College, which later developed into the Aligarh Muslim University. His work gave rise to a new generation of Muslim intellectuals and politicians who composed the Aligarh movement to secure the political future of Muslims of India. In 1842, Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar II revived upon Syed Ahmad Khan the title of Javad-ud Daulah, conferred upon Syed Ahmad's grandfather Syed Hadi by Emperor Shah Alam II in about the middle of the 18th century. The Emperor added to it the additional title of Arif Jang. The conferment of these titles was symbolic of Syed Ahmad Khan's incorporation into the nobility of Delhi. Born into Muslim nobility, Sir Syed earned a reputation as a distinguished scholar while working as a jurist for the British East India Company. During the Indian Rebellion of 1857 he remained loyal to the British and was noted for his actions in saving European lives. After the rebellion he penned the booklet Asbab-e-Baghawat-e-Hind (The Causes of the Indian Mutiny) - a daring critique, at the time, of British policies that he blamed for causing the revolt. Believing that the future of Muslims was threatened by the rigidity of their orthodox outlook, Sir Syed began promoting Western-style scientific education by founding modern schools and journals and organising Muslim intellectuals. Towards this goal, Sir Syed founded the Muhammedan Anglo-Oriental College in 1875 with the . 116 pp. Englisch. Bookseller Inventory # 9781156783542

Excerpt: Mohammad Salam (Urdu: ¿¿¿¿ ¿¿¿ ¿¿¿¿¿¿) (January 29, 1926 - November 21, 1996) was a Pakistani theoretical physicist and Nobel laureate in Physics for his work on the unification of the electromagnetic and weak forces. Salam, Sheldon Glashow and Steven Weinberg shared the 1979 Nobel prize for this discovery. Salam holds the distinction of being the first Pakistani and the first Muslim Nobel Laureate to receive the prize in the sciences. Salam was a science advisor to the Government of Pakistan from 1960 till 1974, a position from which he played a major and influential role in Pakistan's science infrastructure. Salam was responsible for not only major development and contribution in theoretical and particle physics, but as well as promoting scientific research at maximum level in his country. Salam was the founding director of Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), and responsible for the establishment of the Theoretical Physics Group (TPG) in Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC). As Science Advisor, Salam played an integral role in Pakistan's development on peaceful use of nuclear energy, and directed the research on development of weapons in 1972. In 1974, Salam left Pakistan in protest when Pakistan Parliament controversially passed a parliamentary bill declaring Ahmadiyya Muslim Community as Non-Muslims. Even after his death, Salam remained one of the most influential scientists in his country. In 1998, following the country's nuclear tests, the Government of Pakistan issued a commemorative stamp, as a part of 'Scientists of Pakistan', to honour the services of Salam. Salam's major and notable achievements include Pati-Salam model, Magnetic photon, Vector meson, Grand Unified Theory, work on the quarks and the global symmetry, and most importantly Electroweak theory, for which he was awarded the most prestigious award in Physics - the Nobel Prize.
