All seventeen of the China Bayles novels include the names of herbs, and the subsequent mysteries invariably include detailed, meticulously reported herbal themes that invoke the title. She is a popular guest speaker at both herbal clubs and women's groups. Albert has described her books as cosy mysteries, because they do not describe much violence or gratuitous behaviour. The generally very clean covers are very well attached, with a 3/8 split in a lower hinge. Slight rubbing to the covers' corners, else both the spine and the covers have good, unworn and unbumped edges. The number "5" has been written on the spine. 203 clean and tightly bound pages with a few creases to some pages' corners. This fifth title is listed as the last title on the Nancy Drew list. The endpapers are plain white, without any illustrations. The frontpaper has the inscription: "Merry Christmas to you, from Dorothy 1931". The lower right corner of the same page has the bookseller's label of "Cameron's Books and Magazines - Portland, Oregon". There is some shakiness between the frontispiece illustration and the title page. Bookseller Inventory # 13630

Item Description: Grosset & Dunlap, New York, 1934. Hard Cover. Book Condition: Near Fine to Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Good Plus. First Edition. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. ** NOT EX-LIBRARY ** TRUE 1ST EDITION WITH DUSTJACKET ** 215 pages with 3 pages of ads at the end, 4 internal full-page illustrations on glossy paper by Ferdinand E. Warren, with the girls "reading note" pictorial endpapers. The first Dana Girls mystery, #1 on dustjacket spine. Thick edition, in the very sturdy purple cloth-covered boards with embossed black lettering and with the magnifying glass/necklace silhouette on the front. Dustjacket flap and copyright page lists only the first three Dana Girls titles. These 3 books were released simultaneously as a breeder set for the series. Also lists Nancy Drew titles to "The Password to Larkspur Lane". Reverse side of dustjacket is Grosset & Dunlap catalog for books, and rear jacket panel reads only "A New Story by the Author of Nancy Drew". A lovely, near flawless copy of the book itself, with no real flaws to note, shows only extremely brief, very occasional and faint signs of use. The book is exceptionally clean and stain-free, it stands perfectly straight, and it is very firm and tight in its binding, no pages loose or missing. The hinges are sound and undamaged, the corners unbumped. The pages are very clean, clear, and unsoiled, only faintly age-toned, and all text is bright, crisp and sharp. There is a previous owner's signature discreetly near the top of the front free endpaper, but absolutely no other writing, underlining, highlighting or other such markings in the book. The cloth binding shows virtually no wear at all and remains bright and crisp, looks almost like new. The dustjacket colors are faintly faded from age, but the jacket is very clean and stain free, moderately edgeworn, with occasional chipping and minor edge-tears, but jacket remains basically complete and intact, all lettering and graphics present and remain very clear, bright, sharp and legible. Jacket now in removable clear mylar protective cover. Buy with confidence, professional booksellers for 35 years, selling online since 1995. Bookseller Inventory # 011326
