Sehr haufig erscheint eingesprengt in gleichsam schwebenden Krystallen das oben schon erwahnte farblose Mineral, dessen Krystalldurchschnitte gewohnlich wie zerfressen und corrodirt aussehen; es besitzt eine vollkommene Spaltbarkeit parallel der Verticalaxe und eine zweite Spaltungsrichtung senkrecht darauf. An Schnitten, die nahezu dunkel bleiben oder zum mindesten nur schwach blaulichgraue Interferenzfarbe aufweisen, lasst sich bald senkrechter Austritt der einen der optischen Axen, bald seitlicher Austritt der ersten Mittellinie beobachten. Dieses Mineral ist optisch zweiaxig und ziemlich stark positiv doppelbrechend; ausserdem ist es noch durch ein sehr lebhaftes Relief charakterisirt. Schnitte parallel der c-Axe zeigen zwischen gekreuzten Nicols ziemlich lebhafte Interferenzfarben. Deutliche Krystallumrisse sind jedoch sehr selten; ein verhaltnismassig regelmassiger Durchschnitt von 0-585 Millimeter und 0189 Millimeter Grosse ist in Figur 3, Tafel VI, abgebildet. Berucksichtigt man neben den optischen Eigenschaften noch die leichte Loslichkeit dieses farblosen Minerals in Salzsaure, so ist dieses Mineral, insbesondere nach den analytischen Nachweisen, die weiter unten naher gegeben sind, zweifellos als Wollastonit zu bezeichnen. Der Wollastonit ist ein ausserst seltener Gesteinsgemengtheil; er wurde bisher nur in Nephelingesteinen nachgewiesen, so von A. E. An Schnitten, die nahezu dunkel bleiben oder zum mindesten nur schwach blaulichgraue Interferenzfarbe aufweisen, lasst sich bald senkrechter Austritt der einen der optischen Axen, bald seitlicher Austritt der ersten Mittellinie beobachten. Dieses Mineral ist optisch zweiaxig und ziemlich stark positiv doppelbrechend; ausserdem ist es noch durch ein sehr lebhaftes Relief charakterisirt. Schnitte parallel der c-Axe zeigen zwischen gekreuzten Nicols ziemlich lebhafte Interferenzfarben. Deutliche Krystallumrisse sind jedoch sehr selten; ein verhaltnismassig regelmassiger Durchschnitt von 0-585 Millimeter und 0189 Millimeter Grosse ist in Figur 3, Tafel VI, abgebildet. Berucksichtigt man neben den optischen Eigenschaften noch die leichte Loslichkeit dieses farblosen Minerals in Salzsaure, so ist dieses Mineral, insbesondere nach den analytischen Nachweisen, die weiter unten naher gegeben sind, zweifellos als Wollastonit zu bezeichnen. Der Wollastonit ist ein ausserst seltener Gesteinsgemengtheil; er wurde bisher nur in Nephelingesteinen nachgewiesen, so von A. E.
