Paperback. First Edition Thus [1978]; so stated. First Edition Thus [1978]; so stated. Very Good+ in Wraps: shows small mechanically-punched hole at upper front corner; light wear to extremities; very mild rubbing and faint soiling to wrapper covers; pages have tanned a bit with age; sticker residue at inside front cover; binding square and secure; text clean. No longer 'As New', but remains quite presentable. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 12mo. 338pp. Mass Market Paperback. Second in the trilogy of "She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed". Still terrific, still imaginative, still thrilling. How does Haggard do it? The scenes and images he conjures up. The cliff-hanging(literally), Perils of Pauline adventures just fascinate. It is no less a book than the first, which is unusual for sequels. This one takes place in Tibet, rather than Libya, and Haggard foresees the importance of radium.

Paperback. First Edition Thus [1999]; First Printing indicated. Very Near Fine in Wraps: shows only the most minute spine lean and the pages have tanned somewhat, due to aging. The Binding remains perfectly secure; the text is clean. Very close to 'As New'. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 8vo. 400 pages. Trade Paperback. I have read all of The Vampire Chronicles over at least 20 times and I love each and every one of them, but while Lestat is my favorite character this particular book of Armand's life story is my absolute favorite. I love how after reading this book all the gaps that you may have had about Armand finally get filed in. After reading this book I finally understood him. It is like Anne put's her all in each and every one of her characters and Armand is no exception. He is by far the most complex of all her chronicle vampires and you see that in this book. I love how in this book you get to see a tender side to Armand that you really don't get to see much. You get to see the change he made from Amadeo to Armand. This story is just amazing. Also Anne's attention to detail is magnificent. She treats every detail like it is the key to all understanding and I admire that. I also admire her attention to historic details. I love how in her chronicles she always intertwined her fiction and the lives or her vampires with historic places and events. It is very thought provoking. Overall I love how while reading this you can feel every emotion that Armand felt. When he is happy you feel his happiness and when he is sad you feel and understand it all. Out of all the chronicles though this book is the one that I literally get engrossed in to the point that it is like I am not merely reading it, but I am there. I get so sucked into his story that it is like I am no longer just sitting in my room reading a book, but I am there. This at times makes it difficult, especially when Armand becomes numb, because I feel every emotion he has as if it was my own, but it is worth it because this book is beyond all words. Anne Rice did wonderfully with this book and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys imaginative fiction in this genre. First Edition Thus [1999]; First Printing indicated.

A Sherlock Holmes adventure staged in Europe of 1891. 40-Week Bestseller & adapted to film in 1976 w/the same title. Ingeniously published as a "lost manuscript" of the late Dr. John H. Watson. The Introduction tells us Holmes did not die along with Prof. James Moriarity as we were all told in The Final Problem, That book was frabricated to allow privacy while Holmes' was in therapt with Sigmund Freud for cocaine addition (self-injected with a 7% -solution). Treatment's success allowed Holmes to thwart a European war while unravelling a sinister kidnapping plot. Freud shares the revalation wtih Watson; both elected not to tell Holmes. Dynamics of family histories both shared & clouded by silence of the too painful. An acclaimed novel from Elizabeth Roser which has been translated into 9 languages. Story of 3 young people dealing w/past family sufferings. There is Julian Perel & sister Paula, familiar w/Auschwitz prison numbers on their Hungarian-American father's arm who dies without sharing his past, and Sola, who witnessed destruction of her South American home village. As adults Julian, like his father, is a scientist governed by numbers & logic, consciously adopting the same orderly life of routine & seclusion as heir; Julian has an apartment above that of sister Paula. Paula, by contrast, joined the social world as eagerly as Julian rejected it, is an promising opera singer, and always felt singing "was the only gift I could offer to my father" for filling our house with music would give him joy. So it was, on a certain wedsday ("miercoles" in Spanish which sounds like miracles), before embarking on a 6-week European opera tour, Sola, Paula's housekeeper agrees to stay in her lodgings & keep an eye on Julian in the apartment above. Yet Sola, too, has a story; she witnessed the destruction of her native village and has been silent; wanting most to be cleanse, as home windows, to "allow things to pass through". In Europe, Paulas unearths pieces of her father's early life in Budapest, the traditional joy of music in family life, and other details prior to the Holocaust. Meanwhile, Julian becomes privy to Sola's untold story. Revelations that help all three learn how to both surrender & revere shadows of the past that have long cast heavily upon all three. 241 pgs, 12 chapters, narrated in voices of the 3 protangonists.
