Item Description: Estes and Lauriat, Boston, 1893. Full Cloth. Book Condition: Very Good. 48 volumes COMPLETE. Each book is bound in dark blue cloth with a paste-on paper label and is numbered 1- 48 in red. Imperial Limited Edition. 23 out of 1,000 copies printed. This edition is augmented by notes and introductions by Andrew Lang who, with the permission of Scott's grandson, was given access to Sir Walter Scott's personal correspondence in order to better ascertain the events and circumstances in which these novels were written. All other biographical material is based on Lockhart's "Life of Scott". there is the usually scuffing to the paper labels and minor chipping to a few. There is mild scuffing to the covers of about 12 books (see photos). There are two volumes that have white chalk-like scuffs to the front covers (also photographed). The bindings are tight. The interiors are in excellent condition. No previous owner's names and many volumes seem unopened (there is a crackling sound from the gilt top edging). Sir Walter Scott, 1st Baronet (15 August 1771 - 21 September 1832) was a prolific Scottish historical novelist and poet popular throughout Europe during his time. In some ways Scott was the first author to have a truly international career in his lifetime, with many contemporary readers all over Europe, Australia, and North America. His novels and (to a lesser extent) his poetry are still read, but he is less popular today than he was at the height of his fame. Nevertheless many of his works remain classics of both English-language literature and specifically Scottish literature. Famous titles include Ivanhoe, Rob Roy, The Lady of the Lake, Waverley and The Heart of Midlothian. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Hardcover. Bookseller Inventory # 009079
