Item Description: Estes & Lauriat, Boston, 1878. Leather. Book Condition: Very Good. Various Artists (Wood, Steel Engravings) (illustrator). First Edition. Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. First edition. A matching two volume set in leather in very good condition. Subtitled: "With one thousand illustrations on wood and steel of picturesque views from all parts of the world. Comprising mountain, lake and river scenery, parks, palaces, cathedrals, churches, castles, abbeys, and other views selected from the most noted and interesting parts of the world. With original and authentic descriptions by the best authors." Both volumes in brown pebbled leather with black leather over the spine and corners, set off with gilt rule lines. Title "Picturesque World" and "Vol. 1" (or "Vol. 2") in the second and fourth of six panels set off by raised bands over the spine with gilt-embellished vertical lines over the raised portions. Vol. 1 has a missing piece of exterior binding (with underboards showing) at the lower left front board and the lower right spine heel. This is approximately 3.5 inches high and 1.25 inches wide at the most on the front board, with 0.75 inches wide at the spine heel. Both volumes have shelf wear, particularly at the spine edges, heels, and crowns. All edges gilt. Special design in the endpapers. Mild foxing at front and rear free end papers. Otherwise, remarkably clean and unmarked. Volume 1 and 2 run 576 pages each. Volume 1 has dampstain evidence at the top. Volume 2 shows some dampstain toward the rear, along with mild foxing. Overall, this is a very good two volume set, hard to find, and should prove to be a solid investment, providing excellent esthetic value. Size: nearly 10.5 inches wide x nearly 13 inches tall x 2.5 - 2.75 inches thick. Will require extra postage to be agreed upon prior to shipping. Bookseller Inventory # 001637
