Book First Edition
Hardcover. SIGNED. First edition. Fine hardcover; no dj as issued. BOOKS SHIP THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY, WRAPPED IN PADDING, IN A BOX. An artist's book by the Brazilian artist Caio Reisewitz (Caio Christian Reisewitz, b. 1967) issued in conjunction with an exhibition held at Galeria Brito Cimino, Sao Paulo, Brazil. The title translates as "Periphery" and according to the artist refers "to the uncontrolled way the city is changing, from building luxury condominiums in the old parts of the city to diluting their natural landmarks." The photographs are mainly from three recent series: "Conquest," appropriated images from apartment sales leaflets showing scenes of joy; "Home," collages of silhouettes of the Serra da Cantareira with reproductions of 19th century landscape paintings of the Sao Paulo area; "Joses," assemblages with images of the Sao Paulo prophet in front of landmarks and allegories of the city, such as ipe trees, the House of Detention (in the Carandiru), the Dutra road, and the Jaragua Peak. Photographs by Caio Reisewitz. SIGNED BY REISEWITZ on the ffep; no inscription. From a first edition limited to 3000 unnumbered copies. Unpaginated [72 pages]; color plates throughout; 6.25 x 9 inches. Text in Portuguese and English.
