Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. 323 pp., frontis, appendices, photographs, footnotes, fold out illustrations page. A fine, tight, unmarked, sharp cornered copy. In a very good dust jacket with chipping and edge weat. Custer blazed a crimson trail from one end of the Plains to the other, beginning in the South. This book carries the reader along this trail, from beginning to end, assigning each incident its relative importance. It establishes the eventual importance of many incidents, which, were they considered individually, would seem trivial and lacking in major significance. Coordinated, it is a very different story. A great read. Luther #19, Dodd #88, Dustin #306.

First edition. First Edition. Cloth, 323pp. Illustrated with 21 plates, many from old photographs. 13 Appendices. An important account of the Battle of the Washita and the efforts of the military, under the leadership of General Philip Sheridan, to defeat the hostile Cheyennes, Comanches, and Kiowa Indians. The author's work is critical of Custer and is considered to be an important counter-balance to the many works that are supportive of Custer's actions. A fine copy in black & white dust jacket. We are unaware of priority of dust jackets for this book. We've offered copies with the pictorial dust jacket a few times before, and have a copy in inventory right now, but this is the first time we've been able to offer a copy in the black & white printed dust jacket. We believe that, with the lack of any printing of the inside of the flaps, and the simplicity of cover design, that this dust jacket precedes the pictorial dust jacket. Either way, it's a scarce work. This dust jacket is internally reinforced along top edge, has very slight chipping to top edge, and shows moderate foxing to front and rear panel. Signed by Brill on front free-endpaper.
