Those so called ?Good old days? #### ## Fanshawe Gate Hall, in North Derbyshire, is the original 18th century seat of the Fanshawe family. The present buildings date mainly from the 16th. century. The one-and-a-half acre garden has many fine stone features; including walls, terraces, and a three-storey stone dovecote, also dating from the 16th century.## ## The garden is planted in a traditional cottage garden style, with historic plant varieties and topiary; there are also some unusual modern planting schemes. The upper walled garden and courtyard have herbaceous borders, rose beds, herbs; fern and variegated plantings, with climbers, water features, and extensive lawns. The lower courtyard is designed around a knot garden. ## ## The garden is open to the public in June and July under the, National Gardens Scheme.
