1st edn 2nd printing. 8vo. Original silver lettered brown and black cloth (Fine), no dustwrapper. Pp. xiv + 534 (no inscriptions).
Published by Greenwood Press, Westport, first edition, 1997, 1997
Cloth, 8vo, xii, 514 pp. This reference book is a guide to the rich and diverse literature of Tudor England. Included are entries for nearly 100 people who wrote between 1485 and 1603. The entries are written by expert contributors and are arranged alphabetically to facilitate use. Some of the authors profiled are major canonical figures, such as Shakespeare, Spenser, and Donne. But the volume also includes a significant number of entries for women writers, whose work has been unjustly disregarded until recent years. While most of the authors were from England, the volume contains entries on figures such as Erasmus, who, though born in another country, wrote important works in England, and on writers such as Machiavelli, Calvin, Ariosto, and Tasso, whose works were almost immediately adopted, translated, or otherwise made part of Tudor culture. Each entry provides a brief biography, which is followed by a discussion of major works and themes, a review of the author's critical reception, and a bibliography of primary and secondary sources. Badly bumped at base of spine and moderately bumped at top of rear board; a clean and usable working copy.

Cloth, 8vo, xii, 431-883 pp. "Supporters of the Reagan presidency claim that the "Reagan Revolution" defeated inflation, reduced the role of government, rehabilitated the authority of the states and local government, and established a sensible balance between industrial progress and environmental protection. Opponents assert that these policies increased the national debt by more than $1 trillion, gutted social programs, and created a "trickle-down" economy that increased unemployment, insecurity, homelessness, and the percentage of Americans living at or below the poverty level. Both positions are argued by such participants as Edwin Meese III, James G. Watt, and Lyn Nofzinger, and such commentators and scholars as Mike Wallace, Roy Innis, and Kenneth W. Thompson. Students of the era as well as of the presidency and the evolution of domestic political and social affairs will find provocative and insightful observations in this volume." - from the publisher's description.
