Book
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First edition thus. First trade edition of this "chronicle of lusty adventure out of our pioneer past", first published privately in 1914. Described as a "miner, trapper, muleteer, speculator, lawyer, hero of the Civil War, scientist, philosopher", Isaac Wistar was indeed a "colorful figure". There are several illustrations (including one of the author, aged 17, in which he looks just like a young Christopher Reeve), an index, and fold-out map showing his journey across America. Lovely royal blue linen boards. Edges slightly browned, hinge cracked at rear endpaper, but a very good copy indeed in very good, price-clipped dust jacket, edgeworn, minimally browned on spine, with internally strengthened short tears at extremities. JS.
