New Politics represented intellectual refugees from Max Schactman's International Socialist League before it merged with the Socialist Party of America. The politics represented the earlier Marxist politics of the Workers Party/ISL known as "Third Camp Socialists". Representing a distinct anti-Stalinist "state capitalist" trend on the U.S. left the magazine never became an organ of any of the various state capitalist groups of the 1960s and 1970s.
