Edges discolored, boards a bit soiled, joints weakening, spine leather drying a bit, bookplate of J. Talbot Clifton of Kildalton on front endpapers, ink name and date on front flyleaves. 1771 Full-Leather. Full leather, red and green morocco spine label, gilt titles and decorations, marbled endpapers. Engraved frontispieces by Basire and Isaac Taylor. The author was a politician and grammarian greatly influenced by the works of Aristotle, and best known for his 1751 work Hermes, a philosophical examination of universal grammar. These works comprise traditional philosophical teachings on formal logic, first principles, physics, metaphysics, the arts, emotion, etc.
