Item Description: Farrar & Rinehart, New York, 1933. Book Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. First Edition. A Fine book in a Fine dust wrapper signed by the author in the center of the front free end paper. A 1224-page book whose only flaw is some offsettting to the inner areas of the front pastedown and front free end paper caused by contemporary ephemera laid in, including a 15-page pamphlet written by the author and reprinted from The Saturday Review of Literature(1934) entitled The Sources of Anthony Adverse. The lightly constructed blue boards are in fine, unfaded condition and all gold lettering on the front panel and spine and the front panel border is unblemished and unfaded. The book is first state with "Xavier" for "Zavier" on page 352, "ship" for "shop" on page 1086, line 18 and the word "found" duplicated on page 397, line 22. The mylar-protected dust wrapper's only flaw is the almost negligible light tanning of the spine compared to the tan color of the jacket as a whole and a 3/16" closed tear and related small crease at the top of the spine; otherwise, the wrapper condition is very fine with no other blemishes, remarkable for a book of this age and size. Scarce in this condition, especially signed. Extra postage cost may apply due to weight of book. Signed by Author. Bookseller Inventory # 000016

Item Description: Farrar & Rinehart, New York, 1933. Orig Blue Cloth with Gilt. Book Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine (brodarted). Allan McNab (illustrator). First Edition. This 1224 page blockbuster, being an increasingly well respected and energetically applauded offering it is proudly presented with great and well deserved hubris by Hirschfeld Galleries in both the publishers original binding and original dustwrapper. The binding is blue cloth with gilt titling and is in wonderful, near fine, condition. Huge (1224 page) epic novel set in the late 18th and early 19th centuries follows anthony, its hero - a foundling dubbed "adverse" because of the adversity attached to his early life - from europe to africa to america. An adventure story rich in action told with gusto. Later warner brothers produced the film version starring fredric march. Pictorial jacket is also in fine condition with only a couple oif tiny chips, and said jacket is nowand forevermore protected from any future ambient abuse and resulting degradation by professionally fitted and applied yet instantly removable Brodart mylar. But enough of the lugubrious however allegorically wise jaw-jacking, enough said of the telluric parameters of select Hirschfeld Galleries' offerings such as this one which take on a life of their own and speak so very loudly for themselves. Read to learn and enjoy; go forth to share and enjoin. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Epic Hardcover. Bookseller Inventory # 006137
