Smith's later issue with Piccadilly address shown on an undated title page and imprint as 'Bradbury Evans and Co., Printers, Whitefriars'; bound in the secondary olive green fine-diaper cloth, gilt-lettered to spine with covers stamped in blind, coated yellow endpapers (Smith notes 'plain' endpapers). "This separate issue is created from portions of Master Humphrey's Clock, the numbering of the pagers therefore being occasionally defective" i.e. bound with unaltered stereotype sheets from the original triple-decker, albeit with a new title page and 'Advertisement' leaf. Contents clean but for the occasional spot or mark; board edges worn, cloth rubbed at joints and a little frayed in places, spine ends show some wear. Very good overall. Smith 6A - see Note 4. Edges dusty, occasional light toning or spotting to text otherwise the contents are particularly clean; corners rubbed, boards a little marked otherwise externally fine. First Edition in Book Form; originally a weekly periodical edited and written entirely by Charles Dickens from April 4, 1840-December 4, 1841; Narrator Master Humphrey was a lonely man who lived in London. Item Description: Chapman and Hall, London, 1840. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. George Cattermole and Hablot Browne (illustrator). First Edition First Printing. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. These two books are clean, tight, square with good corners and unmarked (volume II and III are dated 1841). They are rubbed at the edges and there is some fraying to the leather there. They have 306, 303, 426, bright clear pages with minimal foxing (generally confined to the end papers) extensively illustrated with black and white drawings. They have a three-quarter binding with tan leather at the corners and spine and boards covered in red, marbled papers. The spine have five raised bands with gold titles in darker panels. Volumes I and II are separated in the first book by a frontispiece on thicker paper. The title page for volume II is at the front of the second book.
