Signed presentation from the author "For Jeannie with love from Truman." Jeannie = Jeanie Sims (1921Ð2010)film script writer and editor who retired to Aldeburgh, Suffolk. She worked on films with Truman Capote and Ray Bradbury and was involved in the production of The African Queen. She was personal assistant to John Huston on the 1954 film 'Beat the Devil' which had a script by Truman Capote.She also worked with him as script editor on 'The Innocents' in 1961. Her name was spelt Jeanie but sometimes it was spelt (by others) as Jeannie. Very good indeed in near very good dust jacket slightly nicked at spine ends and slightly rubbed at corners. Decent copy.

Nearly fine with the slightest of effacement to the publisher's imprint on the spine. There are a few tiny spots to the fore-edge. The "Breakfast" jacket is faded at the spine as usual, but is otherwise free from chipping and is not price-clipped. The "Nine Lives" jacket has some minor spotting and soiling, but is otherwise right and sharp. Laid in is a photo of Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard in costume; Peppard (Varjak) is autographing a copy of his "Nine Lives." Also laid in is a purported autograph letter on printed letterhead [HOLLY GOLIGHTLY / (Travelling)] signed by Holly Golightly, referencing this prop book and the Varjak dust jacket copy including quotes from Jimmy Starr, Harrison Carroll, Louella Parsons and Hedda Hopper.

This is a signed, first edition, first issue of Truman Capote's classic novella chronicling the adventures of the free-spirited Holly Golightly, Breakfast at Tiffany's. In addition to the title novella, the book also includes three other short stories: House of Flowers, A Diamond Guitar, and A Christmas Memory. The book is issued its first issue dust jacket with the 10/58 date code one the front flap. "First Printing" is stated on the copyright page and the book signed by the author Truman Capote on the front flyleaf. Capote originally sold his story Breakfast at Tiffany's to Harper's Bazaar for $2,000, with intended publication in its July 1958 issue. Shortly after the publication was scheduled, Harper's editor Carmel Snow was ousted by the magazine's publisher, the Hearst Corporation, and Hearst executives began asking for changes to the novella's language as there was concern that Tiffany's & Co., a major advertiser, would react negatively. The story was removed from the Harper s Bazzar publication schedule but Capote soon resold the work to Esquire for $3,000. His novella appeared in Esquire s November 1958 issue. A collection of the Breakfast at Tiffany s novella and three short stories by Capote was published by Random House in the same year. The novella received glowing reviews. The novella was quickly adapted for the 1961 hit film starring Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard. Truman Capote was born in New Orleans and educated in New York and Connecticut. He worked in the Art Department of The New Yorker and as a writer on a television show before going on his own as a full-time writer. His first novel at age 24, Other Voices, Other Rooms, brought him literary fame and a strong following, which continued throughout his life, reaching a peak with the success of his "nonfiction true crime novel In Cold Blood. Truman Capote's original Birth Certificate - issued in the parish of New Orleans & registered the 3rd day of October, 1924 & showing the birth of Truman Streckfus Persons, September 30th, 1924. A unique document. A bit tattered but still quite bright & clean. In 1928, when Truman was 4, the Certificate was given by Capote's mother, Lillie Mae Faulk Persons [soon to be Capote] to her sister, Lucille Faulk Ingram for safekeeping. Lillie Mae was off to New York to make a new life leaving Truman to the care & nurturing of his Monroeville relatives. Outside of the cousins Truman lived with as a child, Lucille Faulk Ingram & her daughter, Cecilia, were his closest kin. As a fledgling writer looking for solitude, it was in the comfort of Lucille Ingram's home that Truman began to write his first novel, Other Voices, Other Rooms.
