Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Tommy Holmes was a Sports Columnist for the Brooklyn Eagle when he wrote this book. in his introduction Red Barber wrote "This book has the swift motion needed to recapture the days and daze and nights of the Dodger saga." Has a great, illustrated front Dust Jacket by Piero. of a very large Dodger riding a small donkey. The rear cover of the Dust Jacket has a large Dodger stumbling over 16 baseballs. The book has the normal browning of pages, otherwise is in very good condition. Has gray boards with red lettering on the spine. The Dust Jacket has small chips and tears (is now in a mylar protector) and is in good condition, still has bright colors. One of the most difficult books on the Dodgers to find. I have more than 300 baseball team histories, around 190 books by and about sportswriters and over 50 Dodger publications in stock. First Edition Signed
Stapled Wrappers. Condition: Very Good. First Printing. Original printed stapled wrappers with 8 pp. ads and 2 pp. score card, the score card unmarked. SIGNED in pencil rear cover by Boston Braves infielder Max Macon, and SIGNED on a torn sheet of ruled paper laid in by Braves center fielder Tommy Holmes. Very Good, the WWII era paper uniformly browned, small edge tear, light soiling rear cover. Tommy Holmes was one of the most popular performers in Boston baseball history, a .302 lifetime hitter who set a then-National League record with a 37-game hitting streak in 1945. Max Macon spent most of his big league career as a pitcher, but in 1944 was the Braves starting first baseman for the first three months of the season. Since he was not listed as the starter on the score card for this game, that makes this games card an August or September 1944 game. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. SIGNED.
