Item Description: Jonathan Cape, London, 1958. Book Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. First Edition. HARDBACK - THIRD IMPRESSION - The book is in near fine condition. The book is signed by the author to the front end paper. Ian Fleming has signed the book I.L. Fleming instead of the customary Ian Fleming. This is the only time we have encountered a fleming signature, signed in this way. The book comes from the library of Stanley Meyer, who was a Hollywood producer, who met Fleming in 1956, and expressed an interest in buying the rights to film Live and Let Die and Moonraker. There is a neat Stanley and Dodo Meyer book plate to the centre of the front endpaper. The books boards are clean with just a small bump to the bottom corner of the front board. The inner pages are clean, and free of foxing. The dust wrapper is in near fine condition, with no loss, and is correctly priced at 13s.6d.net. A very nice association copy. Signed by Author. Item Description: London: Jonathan Cape. 1963, 1963. FIRST EDITION, Fifth Impression. Pp. 256. Publisher's dark brown cloth in the original dust-wrapper illustrated by Pat Marriott. Some toning to the edges and spine panel; near fine. This copy bears the signature of Ian Fleming to the flyleaf. Fleming usually did not sign reprints or paperbacks but this 1963 printing was most likely autographed due to the interest in the film adaptation of this particular title, which was doing great business in the cinema at the time. Item Description: London: Jonathan Cape, (1958). Original black cloth with silhouette of dancing woman in dark brown, with dust jacket. First Edition of the sixth James Bond thriller -- though the first to be filmed (in 1962), in which Sean Connery made his debut as "007". This copy has the front-cover silhouette of a dancing woman (some do not; priority has not been established). This volume is in close-to-fine condition (a few faint scratches on the rear cover, spine slightly aslant); the silver lettering on the spine remains very bright. The dust jacket, still with its "13s.6d.net" price, is near-fine as well -- essentially no external wear or soil at all, with a faint inkstamp on the front flap. Bookseller Inventory # 12483

Item Description: The First Edition Library 1981 - 1993, Shelton, Connecticut, 1981. Hardcover. Book Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. First edition facsimiles. This is a full, 14-volume set of high quality first edition facsimiles published by The First Edition Library between 1981 and 1993. James Bond is the iconic fictional character of the second half of the 20th Century and a singular cultural landmark of the Cold War and its aftermath. Said his creator, Ian Fleming: "Bond is not a hero, nor is he depicted as being very likeable or admirable. He is a Secret Service agent. He's not a bad man, but he is ruthless and self-indulgent. He enjoys the fight - he also enjoys the prizes. In fiction, people used to have blood in their veins. Nowadays they have pond water. My books are just out of step. But then so are all the people who read them." The fascination, with all of its contradictions, endures. Fleming's "Bond. James Bond." has now had a longer life in print, in film, and as a cultural mainstay, than that lived by his creator. Ian Fleming (1908-1964) was a journalist, stockbroker, and naval intelligence officer during the Second World War. After the war he became foreign manager, in charge of foreign correspondents, for Kemsley newspapers, owners of the Sunday Times and other papers. It was not until 1952, at the age of 43, that he wrote Casino Royale, his first novel featuring James Bond. Fleming would ultimately produce 14 James Bond adventures, including the posthumous Octopussy and The Living Daylights volumes. The first editions, issued by publisher Jonathan Cape, were as iconic as their protagonist, with striking dust jacket art and illustrated bindings. This full set of 14 volumes published by The First Edition Library between 1981 and 1993 perfectly reproduces the first editions, with meticulous facsimiles of the original first edition bindings and dust jackets, adding stout gray cloth slipcases with panels reproducing the dust jacket art. Condition of this complete set is truly fine in fine dust jackets and slipcases. We find no ownership markings, spotting, or soiling. The dust jackets are newly fitted with removable, archival quality clear covers. Bookseller Inventory # 002983

Item Description: London: Foyle [The Book Club] 1956-1966., 1966. 11 volumes; 8vo. Publisher's hardbacks in dustwrappers. Some toning and and occasional spotting to the cheap paperstock, minor wear as expected, but generally a very good set, housed in a custom-made fleece-lined slipcase. The entire run of the popular British book club editions, which began in 1956 with 'Live and Let Die'. In total eleven of the fourteen James Bond titles were issued in this format and this set is complete as published. The books were offered in this cheaper format, usually one year after the Cape first editions- some share the same Jonathan Cape artwork, but after the 'Thunderball' painting was damaged while on loan in America, Cape would no longer lend out their original art; as such the Book Club commissioned their own action packed and striking cover designs.
