Finely bound by The Chelsea Bindery in full green morocco, coloured label (each colour reflecting the respective titles), decoration spines gilt, raised bands, rule to boards gilt, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt. A fine set. With numerous illustrations by H. J. Ford, 6 latter volumes having additional colour plates. A complete set of First Editions. Lang, poet, scholar and journalist, devoted much of his life to the compilation of traditional Fairy stories from around the world from both the ancient and modern world. With the publication of the Blue Fairy Book in 1889 he commenced his famous series. New copies, still sealed in plastic, of the Folio Society's acclaimed new versions of Lang's beloved fairytale collections, all twelve of them, originally published one by one in the late 19th century, and here presented in a larger size with excellent new illustrations (color and b&w) by a dozen different artists and new introductions by distinguished authors like A.S. Byatt, Marina Warner, and Jane Yolen. (The Blue Fairy Book for example offers prizewinning work by Charles van Sandwyk, with introduction by Joan Aiken.) Except for the first two books, and possibly the third, these are First Printings, the set assembled over a seven or eight year period, each book from Red or Yellow onward purchased when first introduced. Firsts of the earliest books sell now for hundreds of dollars, and even the reprints are priced $150 and up; here's a sealed as-new set composed of nine or ten Firsts and two or three earliest reprintings offered at what is actually a bargain group price!
