Vellum embossed with fancy arcs and stylized flowers on front and back covers. One leather strap with metal fastener still present the other strap is lost. The other halves of the fasteners on the front cover are missing. All edges worn and slightly stained, corners bumped. Small catalogue tag on front cover and partial one on front endpaper. A Latin anthology of sayings of Latin and Greek church fathers on subjects including blasphemy, lying, simplicity and all matters in between, arranged alphabetically by topic. Condition: Original calf, worn, with embossed boards and raised bands. Title page is creased. A couple of library stamps on bottom edges of pages. Pages shaded. Previous owner?s signature on title page. Author information: Thomas Palmeran, or Thomas of Palmerstown, commonly called Thomas Hibernicus, was born in the County of Kildare at a place called Palmerstown, near Naas, approximately 1269. He forsook his country for the purpose of advancing himself in learning, and continued some time at Paris, where he took the Degree of Doctor in Divinity. He afterwards travelled into Italy, and died in the monastery of Aquila, on the confines of the Kingdom of Naples, where he lies buried. He wrote, Flores Doctorum pene omnium, qui tum in Theologia, tum in Philosophia, hactenus claruerunt? Also, De Christiana Religione,? De illusionibus Daemonum,? De tentatione Diaboli,? De remediis Vitiorum,? Flores Biblicos,? and other works. The first mentioned treatise was begun by John Gualleis or Walleis, a Franciscan friar, under the title of Manipulus Florum; but death obliged him to leave it unfinished, and Thomas put the last hand to it, and gave it the title of Flores Doctorum.
