Book Description: Harcourt, Brace and Company, 1943. Hardcover. Book Condition: Good +. No Jacket. First Edition. Two things prevent the book from being in very good condition. First, a previous owner did a lot of underlining and notating in pencil throughout the book . . . and second, there's a sort of "watermark" stain at the bottom of the bages near the spine throughout the book. Nothing too serious, just there. Bookseller Inventory # 004400

Book Description: Faber and Faber, London, 1940. Soft cover. Book Condition: Near Fine. No Jacket. 1st Edition. This is a set of the first printings of the separately issued booklets by T. S. Eliot that became Four Quartets when bound together by Faber and Faber in 1944. These are EAST COKER, BURNT NORTON, THE DRY SALVAGES and LITTLE GIDDING. They appeared in print between 1940 and 1942, and were also published by Faber and Faber. This set includes the elusive first printing of East Coker (September, 1940), the earliest of the quartets, and the stitch-bound Little Gidding (not stapled like the other three). These are all in near fine condition with the exception of East Coker – it has some very minor light foxing, but because of that I would grade it only very good. These are deep and reflective poems, almost serving as conclusions of Eliot’s earlier great modernist masterpieces such as The Wasteland and The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. This set of the individual Four Quartets is an important set to have in any collection of 20th Century poetry, not just in collections of Eliot’s works. Bookseller Inventory # 1002

Book Description: London: Faber & Faber. Soft cover. Book Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. 1940-42. First edition pamphlets. All in the publisher's stapled wraps. Housed in a custom-made drop-back box, gilt-stamped to cover. A uniform collection of the first impressions in very good condition throughout. Some minor bumping to edges and toning to wraps, scattered foxing to East Coker and neat dedication on front blank to Little Gidding. Four Quartets is a set of poems written by T. S. Eliot that were published individually over a six-year period. The first poem, Burnt Norton was written and published with a collection of his early works following the production of Eliot's play Murder in the Cathedral. After a few years, Eliot composed the other three poems, East Coker, The Dry Salvages and Little Gidding, which were written during World War II and the air-raids on Great Britain. The poems were not collected until Eliot's New York publisher printed them together in 1943. They were first published as a series in Great Britain in 1944 towards the end of Eliot's poetic career.
