Item Description: The First Edition Library 1981 - 1993, Shelton, Connecticut, 1981. Hardcover. Book Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. First edition facsimiles. This is a full, 14-volume set of high quality first edition facsimiles published by The First Edition Library between 1981 and 1993. James Bond is the iconic fictional character of the second half of the 20th Century and a singular cultural landmark of the Cold War and its aftermath. Said his creator, Ian Fleming: "Bond is not a hero, nor is he depicted as being very likeable or admirable. He is a Secret Service agent. He's not a bad man, but he is ruthless and self-indulgent. He enjoys the fight - he also enjoys the prizes. In fiction, people used to have blood in their veins. Nowadays they have pond water. My books are just out of step. But then so are all the people who read them." The fascination, with all of its contradictions, endures. Fleming's "Bond. James Bond." has now had a longer life in print, in film, and as a cultural mainstay, than that lived by his creator. Ian Fleming (1908-1964) was a journalist, stockbroker, and naval intelligence officer during the Second World War. After the war he became foreign manager, in charge of foreign correspondents, for Kemsley newspapers, owners of the Sunday Times and other papers. It was not until 1952, at the age of 43, that he wrote Casino Royale, his first novel featuring James Bond. Fleming would ultimately produce 14 James Bond adventures, including the posthumous Octopussy and The Living Daylights volumes. The first editions, issued by publisher Jonathan Cape, were as iconic as their protagonist, with striking dust jacket art and illustrated bindings. This full set of 14 volumes published by The First Edition Library between 1981 and 1993 perfectly reproduces the first editions, with meticulous facsimiles of the original first edition bindings and dust jackets, adding stout gray cloth slipcases with panels reproducing the dust jacket art. Condition of this complete set is truly fine in fine dust jackets and slipcases. We find no ownership markings, spotting, or soiling. The dust jackets are newly fitted with removable, archival quality clear covers. Bookseller Inventory # 002983

NOTE - THERE WILL BE AN ADDITIONAL SHIPPING CHARGE SINCE THIS IS A SET OF 14 BOOKS (AND NOT A SINGLE BOOK). COMPLETE SET OF ALL 14 IAN FLEMING JAMES BOND BOOKS PUBLISHED BY FIRST EDITION LIBRARY ("FEL") - CASINO ROYALE, LIVE AND LET DIE, MOONRAKER, DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER, FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE, DR. NO. GOLDFINGER, FOR YOUR EYES ONLY, THUNDERBALL, THE SPY WHO LOVED ME, ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE, YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE, THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN, OCTOPUSSY & THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS, published by First Edition Library (and often referred to as the "FEL" edition), copyrights 1953-1966, copyright renewed 1983-1992, white endpapers (or red or patterened endpapers in the case of Spy, YOLT, and Octopussy), black board with gold gilt lettering on spine and impressed designs to front boards, Pat Marriott & Richard Chopping illustrated DJs and slipcases. All 14 Books and Dust Jackets are an exact reproduction of the UK Jonathan Cape Original Hardcovers. First Edition Library (an imprint of Easton Press) issued these reproductions starting around 1985 and ending around 1997, and are now out of print and high collected by Ian Fleming collectors (often just for the slipcase). Note - the flyer insert shown in the last photo is not included. Books, Dust Jackets, and Slipcases are all in very nice condition - all but one book appear like then have never been cracked open/read, no markings inside, no soiling/staining/spine sun fading or edge wear to dust jackets (couple of DJs have hint of wear to spine tips) - almost no sun fading to DJ spines (common defect with these FEL books), no dented corners or soiling to slipcases, no corner wear to slipcases & no tape tears to any slipcases (another common defect). Overall a very nice difficult to find complete set of all 14 Ian Fleming James Bond FEL hardcover books complete with their original slipcase. I have a number of other U.S. and U.K. Ian Fleming James Bond 1st printing hardcover appearances up for sale. Bookseller Inventory # ABE-13959782827
