Item Description: ReInk Books, 2016. Paperback. Book Condition: New. Reprinted from 1521 edition. NO changes have been made to the original text. Illustrations, Index, if any, are included in black and white. Each page is checked manually before printing. As this reprint is from very old book, there could be some missing or flawed pages, but we always try to make the book as complete as possible. Fold-outs, if any, are not part of the book. If the original book was published in multiple volumes than this reprint is of only one volume, not the whole set. This paperback book is SEWN perfect bound, where the book block is actually sewn (smythe sewn/section sewn) with thread before binding which results in a more durable type of paperback binding. It can also be open wide. The pages will not fall out and will be around for a lot longer than normal paperbacks. This book is printed on demand on acid-free paper. Bookseller Inventory # 454590538

Item Description: Gravyr från praktverket Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna. Stockholm 1668. 24,5 × 16 cm. (Bladet 31 × 20,5 cm.) Gott skick., 1668. [ENGLISH: Original engraved plate from Suecia Antiqua et Hodierna - 'Ancient and Present-Day Sweden', the greatest topographical work ever to be published in Sweden. In 354 large engraved plates it depicts cities and notable castles, sometimes rather more magnificient than their actual appearance.Erik Dahlberg (1625-1703), who had been inspired by Matthaeus Merian the younger's 'Theatrum Europaeum' and famous Topographies during his military service in Germany, begun the project in the 1660s. It was not completed until 1715, and the planned text was never issued at all.The earliest 98 plates were engraved in Paris from Dahlberg's drawings by Adam Perelle, Jean Marot, Jean Le Pautre and Nicolas Perelle. Many delays ensued, and the following plates were produced by a number of Dutch artists who were invited to work in Sweden. Among them were Dionysius Padt Brugge, who completed 9 plates, Willem Swidde, who engraved 84 plates, and Johan van den Aveelen, who produced 144 plates.Printing was carried out in Stockholm, and the edition of each plate was usually 1000 copies (but sometimes 1500 or 2000). The work was originally intended for presentation only, and some copies of what had been produced to date were even distributed before completion. In the 1720s 600 sets were assembled and sold, and another 50 in 1751. Sets and plates continued to be distributed throughout the 19th century.Erik Dahlberg's original drawings have been preserved in Kungl. Biblioteket, Stockholm, and were published in 4 volumes 1963-70. The copper plates are preserved in the Nationalmuseum.Literature: Sten G. Lindberg, Swedish Books 1280-1967 (1968), 37. Brunet 5, 578.]
