First edition of the collector's edition of the first book in Rowling's Harry Potter Series. Octavo, original publisher's full leather decorated in gilt with pictorial onlay to the front panel, all edges gilt, patterned endpapers, illustrated by Mary Grandpre. Boldly signed by J.K. Rowling on the title page. Fine in the original glassine which is in fine condition. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is the first novel in the Harry Potter series and J. K. Rowling's debut novel, first published in 1997 by Bloomsbury. The writing has been compared to that of Jane Austen, one of Rowling's favourite authors, or Roald Dahl, whose works dominated children's stories before the appearance of Harry Potter, and of the Ancient Greek story-teller Homer. It has been translated into several languages and has been made into a feature-length film of the same name.

Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. First American Edition. A Near Fine copy of the book in like jacket. Spine a bit rolled, but unmarked, without previous owner's names or bookplates. In a very attractive dust jacket with "The Guardian" blurb on the rear panel (as required for the first issue jacket). One faint dampstain to the heel of the jacket, only visible from the verso. Overall, a handsome copy of a book that reshaped popular culture. This first print run was limited to 30,000 copies. Later volumes in the series had initial print runs that soared into the millions. Initiating Rowling's now-classic series, Sorcerer's Stone introduced Harry Potter and the wizarding world to muggle readers across the U.S. Released soon after the British first edition titled Philosopher's Stone, the novel follows the orphan Harry as he discovers the truth about his parents, leaving the abusive home of his aunt to begin his magical training in the hallowed halls of Hogwarts School. Alongside new friends Hermione and Ron, Harry begins to realize that not all is as it seems, and that evil forces will soon require him to be a hero. Near Fine in Near Fine dust jacket.

  • Seller image for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Chamber of Secrets & Prisoner of Azkaban, First US Editions, Scholastic, Later Printings, All Signed and inscribed by J.K. Rowling 'To Michael' for sale by Potter Rare Books

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. This is a set of the first three US books in the Harry Potter series, all inscribed 'To Michael' by J.K. Rowling on October 20th, 2000, in New York City. Ten Scholastic essay contest winners were invited to have lunch with Rowling, one of which was Michael Salka who these books are inscribed to. This very brief visit to New York was Rowling's only meeting with Harry Potter fans in the United States in 2000. These books were sold by Michael himself to Adam Houston in 2022 who has since sold them to myself. Four photographs from the event are included, two photos show all 10 essay winners including Michael along with J.K. Rowling and another shows Michael's mum reading to him with these exact three books at the foot of the bed. Michael's mum passed away in 2022 which led him to sell the books. An amazing set, with a lovely story and fantastic provenance.  The Sorcerer's Stone is a paperback 21st printing with an inscription that reads 'To Michael, congratulations, J.K. Rowling.'  The Chamber of Secrets is a hardcover 22nd printing with an inscription that reads 'To Michael, a good writer himself! J.K. Rowling.' The Prisoner of Azkaban is a hardcover 7th printing with an inscription that reads 'To Michael, don't let those photographers get you down! J.K. Rowling.'  All books are in very good condition. Internally all three of the books are exceptionally clean, they have lovely crisp white pages with no marks, ownership inscriptions or writing of any kind. The first book, the paperback appears unread, with an incredibly tight and square binding. there is some minor damage to the base of the spine approx 1.5cm closed tear of the front cover and the first page. The second and third books are in very similar condition to each other, they both have a slight spine lean, pushed spine tips and base, some minor marks to the boards and some minor shelf wear but overall in very good condition. The dust jackets are both in near fine condition with no colour fading at all and just a minor touch of shelf wear. All three inscriptions come fully authenticated by Adam Houston 'theharrypotterspecialist' the world's leading expert in authenticating Jo's signature. This set comes with a full authentication package including a letter of authenticity and collector card for each book along with four photographs from the event where the books were signed. Inscribed by Author(s).

First US edition, first printing. Originally published in the UK as Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in 1997, this printing first introduced Rowling's wizarding world to American readers. This copy contains all the appropriate first printing issue points. Errington notes two states of the dust jacket. The first state includes a quote from The Guardian, as here. The publisher Arthur A. Levine bought the US rights long before the Harry Potter craze took off in the UK. It was, however, this American publication which marked a significant turning point in the book's history. Errington A4(a). Octavo. Original red cloth-backed purple paper boards, spine lettered in gilt, covers blocked with diamond pattern, dark green endpapers. With dust jacket in first state. Vignette title page and chapter headings by Mary GrandPré. Head and foot of spine slightly bumped, unclipped jacket: a near-fine copy in fine jacket.

Overall, a true first printing (which is becoming exceedingly rare in collectible condition) that presents beautifully. Errington A4(a). First published by Bloomsbury in England as Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in 1997, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is the first book in the Harry Potter series. It introduces both Harry and readers alike to the secret, magical world of wizards and witches in England. Although often regarded as a children's novel, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone topped adult reading charts in both the United States and the UK. As Michael Winerip praises in his 1999 New York Times review, "like Harry Potter, [Rowling] had wizardry inside, and has soared beyond her modest Muggle surroundings to achieve something quite special.".

Handsomely bound in finely woven quarter brick red cloth spine stamped brightly in gold. And purple paper-covered boards with a diamond pattern. Clean and tight throughout. In a complete, very crisp later issue dust jacket priced at $19.95 and has the "Year 1" at the top of the spine. Boldly signed by "J.K. Rowling" on the title page in sharpie. According to Rowling, the idea for both the Harry Potter books and its eponymous character came while waiting for a delayed train from Manchester, England to London in 1990. She stated that the idea of "this scrawny, black-haired, bespectacled boy who didn't know he was a wizard became more and more real to me".[2] While developing the ideas for her book, she also decided to make Harry an orphan who attended a boarding school called Hogwarts. She explained in a 1999 interview with The Guardian: "Harry had to be an orphan so that he's a free agent, with no fear of letting down his parents, disappointing them. Hogwarts has to be a boarding school half the important stuff happens at night! Then there's the security. Having a child of my own reinforces my belief that children above all want security, and that's what Hogwarts offers Harry."[3]Her own mother's death on 30 December 1990 inspired Rowling to write Harry as a boy longing for his dead parents, his anguish becoming "much deeper, much more real" than in earlier drafts because she related to it herself.[2] In a 2000 interview with The Guardian, Rowling also established that the character of Wart in T. H. White's novel The Once and Future King is "Harry's spiritual ancestor".[4] Finally, she established Harry's birth date as 31 July, the same as her own. However, she maintained that Harry was not directly based on any real-life person: "he came just out of a part of me".[5]Rowling has also maintained that Harry is a suitable real-life role model for children. "The advantage of a fictional hero or heroine is that you can know them better than you can know a living hero, many of whom you would never meet. if people like Harry and identify with him, I am pleased, because I think he is very likeable." (Wikipedia) Later printing: 22nd edition of the first printing with 22 the lowest number on the line.

Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. Arthur A. Levine / Scholastic Press, New York. 1998. 309 pages. First edition stated, with numberline beginning with 2; which means this is a second printing HOWEVER, the plum here is the DJ, which is the same as the highly collectible, highly desirable first state DJ of the first printing. In addition to the DJ being the same as the first state DJ, the DJ is fine; which is a magnificent feat; as the American print run for the first printing was only 30k copies, and no one knew the author or the story at the time, so these copies were hardly preserved, as the majority of them landed in libraries, and we all know how that goes. So this first state DJ has the requisite Guardian blurb on the rear, the JK initials present at the head of the DJ spine, and properly lacks the year 1 badge at spine head. Raised, gold embossed Harry Potter name on both the spine, and the front. On the back of the dust jacket, there is a single quote on the top, from the Guardian, a paper in London, stating "Harry Potter could assume the near-legendary status of Ronald Dahl's Charlie, of chocolate factory fame." On the bottom left there is a cream/light-yellow bar code box with two bar codes in it, and the smaller bar code states "51695". This highly sought after first state DJ is fine; the only thing keeping the DJ from 'as-new' status is the $16.95 price has been neatly clipped from the top of the DJ flap. The book itself is equally as attractive. Purple diamond-embossed boards quarter-bound in red cloth with the author's initials, JK, present at the head of the spine, while properly lacking the Year 1 badge. Book is tight. Binding and hinges are sound. Panel boards and endpapers are bright and clean. No writing within. A fine/fine copy of the first American edition, second printing in a most desirable, rare, fine, fist state DJ, which has all of the requisite points of the coveted first state, first printing DJ.

Full-Leather. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. Mary Grandpré (illustrator). First Edition/First Printing. A square solid tight clean un-read un-opened very near new copy. This book was issued with a plastic jacket with some printing which acts as an overlay of the book. The jacket is usually missing or destroyed by the time the book makes it to the secondary book market. This particular priced jacket however has some light rubbing wear, several scratches in the spine area else fine. A full leather bound hardback with a facsimilie frontispiece drawing by the author to enhance this un-numbered limited edition, gold tipped text block and gold inlay to both covers and spine. A really nice copy of this edition that you need to complete the old HP collection. This is very much a gift quality example of this title. THIS COPY IS IN MY POSSESSION AND NORMALLY SHIPS NEXT DAY. Book.

Hardcover. Condition: VG-/G+. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. Grandpré, Mary (illustrator). First American Edition. Extremely early (4th) printing of the First American Edition from Oct. 1998 of the very first book in this beloved series. For this printing, the Guardian quote on rear has been replaced with one by Publisher's Weekly, but the original $16.95 price, correct bar code on rear, "J.K." initials on spine, raised Title in gilt on front cover, recessed author name in gilt on lower spine, & NO spine symbol. Hardcover book has the patterned purple paper & red quarter cloth-wrapped spine. Condition is VG-/G+, marred by these flaws: 1) mild rubbing, especially to lower extremities, 2) heavy bumping at heel of spine, very slight at all corners, 3) light, random spotting to external page edges, 4) former owner's bookplate inside front cover, 5) front hinge beginning to crack at title page. Else, completely clean inside, pages creamy white with NO foxing. Binding strong & straight. The unclipped DJ is truly Fine: exceptionally clean & bright, with virtually NO edgewear or fading, no chips or tears! Nicely protected in new mylar cover Free! Our photos depict the exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have!
