First Edition of this extensive account of the war between the United Netherlands and France, England, Münster, and Cologne, 1672-73. Of special interest are the fine etchings by Romeyn de Hooghe, including depictions of the brutal murder of the De Witt brothers by an angry mob (a large plate consisting of four separate scenes), the siege of Gröningen (with plan), the taking of Coevorden, the French atrocities, &c. There is also an attractive suite of portraits of, inter alii, the Prince of Orange, Christoph John, and Cornelius De Witt. A continuation, by G.Brandt de Jonghe, illustrated with thirteen plates by J.Sorjoue, was published in Amsterdam in 1676 but, as usual, it is not offered herewith. Landwehr, Romeyn De Hooghe, 37.
