Item Description: George Allen & Unwin, London, 1937. Decorative Cloth. Book Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. First Edition. The book is firmly bound in the original green cloth, lettered and decorated in black, there is some minor damage to the cloth at the corners and spine ends and one or two tiny marks, the spine is a little cocked. The text block is a touch age toned and there is a neatly written gift inscription to the first blank page, but it is free from foxing. One of the best copies of Tolkien's much loved classic that I have seen, certainly the cleanest example that I have seen of a book without a jacket. Bookseller Inventory # 001957

Item Description: George Allen and Unwin, London, 1937. Cloth Boards. Book Condition: Good. No Jacket. First Edition, First Impression. 8vo. The true first edition, first impression of this scarce and collectable copy. 310 PP with requisite advertisement to rear, this copy comes without a DJ. But, it bears absolutely no marks, ink inscriptions, ex-libris plates or previous owner marks whatsoever. PP are exceptionally clean and tidy, no biopredation or spotting/foxing and free from tanning. Spine does bear some moderate damage, with the detachment of the lower portion of the cloth from the foot of the spine (4") revealing card beneath and edge of rear spine. But we believe this to be easily remedied in restoration. Slightly cocked, gutters are tight and clean and free from peeling or cracking, inner gutters slightly exposed but no detachment or cracking. Very light presumed thumb mark to foredge of pre-title, otherwise PP are truly clean and clear. Half inch scuff to front of CE, with some very light brown markings to the front of the boards, else a sound copy. Bookseller Inventory # 49124
