Item Description: Felicie, Inc, New York, 1973. Hardcover. Book Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: good. First English Language Edition. First English Language Edition. Hardcover. 12 1/4" X 8 3/4". 322pp. Signed in black felt-tip marker by Salvador Dali to copyright page. Very heavy edgewear to gold foil dust jacket, with extremities rubbed through foil, heavy scattered rubbing and scratching, and small open tears to head and tail of spine. Dust soiling and sunning to verso of dust jacket. Pictorial cloth over boards featuring Dali's gastronomic art, with upper board and spine lettered in black and publisher's device stamped in white to upper board. Bumping and rubbing to extremities, with moderate to heavy edgewear and small tear to tail of spine at edge of rear board. Hard bumping to head of spine, resulting in light creasing to top inner corner of most pages. Lean to spine. Front hinge tender. Binding remains sound. A hint of dust soiling to verso of front free endpaper. Pages are clean and unmarked. An admittedly quite worn copy, but, in our humble opinion, it would take much more to diminish the glory of Dali's erotic, surreal, and luxuriously illustrated "gastronomical odyssey," especially when bearing his signature. "The Jaw is our best tool to grasp philosophical knowledge." Acquired via USPS Postal Auction. Bookseller Inventory # 2467

Item Description: Felicie, Paris, France/ New York, 1973. First edition. Handsomely bound in heavy, roughly textured cloth printed with Dali's gustatory art work on the front and rear boards. Clean and tight throughout, and illustrated with numerous color plates of Dali's art and of Dali himself in the restaurant. Featured are exotic dishes, various courses, snails, frogs, shellfish, game, vegetables, aphrodisiacs and desserts. In the original, heavy, gilded colorful dust jacket with the striking images of Gala and lobsters on the front panel; and a gathering of naked women and lobsters on the rear panel. "When six years old I wanted to be a cook Dali wrote. He is now sixty eight and his ambition is fulfilled in the shape of a book: Les Diners de Gala. Published by Felicie Inc., this latest Dali book consists of twelve chapters to which Dali has given the following titles." "Hors-Texte" specially designed and signed by the Artist. 55 recipes illustrated in color, 21 of which were prepared by the leaders of French gastronomy: Lasserre, La Tour d"Argent, Maxim's and LeBuffet de la Gare de Lyon." The jacket is complete with a touch of edge rubbing, especially along the top edges of the front and rear panels and at the corners. A very handsome copy, signed boldly across the frist two white pages. Dali has begun his signature in several circles, cluminating in "DALI and the multi-circled ball over the i and dated it 1978 in blue ink. DALI signed this copy at the Rive Gauche restarant in Georgetown, near Washington, D.C. A very striking and rather scarce signed copy of one of Dali's gastronomic delights. Included is a letter of provenance with this signed copy explaining that Dali was a patron of the Rive Gauche restaurant in Georgetown, and that the manager Jeannine Fletcher asked him to sign this book for her husband.
