Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Includes Dust Jacket. Wanda Gag (illustrator). First Edition. 1929 Newbery Honor recipient and widely considered the first true picturebook. First printing, with Jersey City Printing Co. statement on copyright page. Dust jacket is second state, with biographical information of Wanda Ga'g on the back panel, still referring to New Ulm as "a desolate Minnesota village" rather than "a small Minnesota town," as stated on later jackets. Apart from some smudges at the top of the copyright page, the pages are generally clean (and very crisp) with scattered light foxing on some pages. No creasing or tears. A rather faded previous owner name is on the free front endpaper, and a much later gift inscription is on the back of that page, neatly written. On the inside rear board is a book shop label (Lazarus book shop and circulating library, Columbus, Ohio) with a price of $1.25. Boards have some light soil (dust) but really quite nice. The dust jacket is somewhat darkened and the back panel has dust; there are a few short tears and about a dime-sized piece out on lower back panel (pie-shaped). Please see all photos and feel free to ask any questions. Not Signed.
