"The account of an attack by the British forces on the privateer stronghold at Little Egg Harbor on October 6, 1778; the destruction of the sough Jersey village of Chestnut Neck, and the attack upon the Pulaski Legion on October 15, 1778." Oversized hardcover in brick-colored cloth stamped in gilt with pirate ship design. xxi+208 pp. with index. Folding plate and illustrated with maps, reproductions and photographs. Scarce history of the 23-day expedition of a British force during the American Revolution aimed at destroying the tiny village of Chestnut Neck situated on the Little Egg Harbor (now the Mullica) River in the present day southern New Jersey Atlantic County. The British objective was to destroy the village, warehouses and privateer vessels found in port, as well as the nearby Batsto iron works which supplied implements and armaments to the American forces.
