Book First Edition
1st Edition, 13.5 x 22.4 cm blue cloth with silver titles to the spine. [iv] 188pp with original unclipped dust jacket priced at $4.50. Rubbing to the spine tips and edges with a 3mm split to the upper joint of the rear board. There is a touch of mottling to the front board and slight staining to the bottom edge of the lower board. Internally clean, without name, inscription or bookplate and just a hint of spotting to the edge of the textblock, noting a pattern of four light indentations at the foot of page 1. The dust jacket which is now protected in a removable, clear cover (not shown) is a little dust stained on the rear panel, with just a touch of toning to the white text on the spine. The front panel has three horizontal drips. The spine tips and corners are a little rubbed with some surface abrasion and minor loss to the spine tips. There are 3 closed tears of 0.5 to 1.2 cm. The bottom of the rear panel has a stain commensurate with the markings on the rear board. All in all a lovely stated First Edition copy of this the first of Zelazny Chronicles of Amber series which is surprisingly hard to find due to the fact that a significant part of the initial print run was pulped in error. Rainford & Parris Books welcomes enquiries, so please do not hesitate to ask if you require further images or have any questions. All books are packaged with great care.

First edition, first printing, signed by the author on the title page. The first book in the Chronicles of Amber series is scarce in part because the publishers accidentally pulped much of the print run when they went to destroy remaindered copies of Zelazny's previous book, Creatures of Light and Darkness. Nine Princes and Amber was the source material for the popular video game of the same name and had a "profound effect" (Hartwell, p. 17) on the development of Dungeons & Dragons. Currey, p. 571. David G. Hartwell, "On Roger Zelazny", The Collected Stories of Roger Zelazny, Vol. 3, 2009. Octavo. Original blue cloth, spine lettered in silver. With dust jacket. Spine ends bumped, slight silverfishing to edges, wear to corners of front board, offsetting to front free endpaper; lightly toned jacket with slight loss at foot of spine panel, a few nicks to head of spine and corners, rear panel faintly marked, unclipped: a very good copy in like jacket.
