Item Description: Viking, New York, 1967. Hardcover. Book Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. This is a rare First edition of author Susan Eloise Hinton's first book. This classic was first published by Viking in 1967 when she was only seventeen years of age. The Outsiders is about a gang of ¿greasers,¿ or underprivileged teenagers, living on the east side of Tulsa, Oklahoma. They are constantly under attack from the rich west-side Socs, and have parties and rumbles all the time. The narrator is orphan Ponyboy Curtis. He pretty much knows what to expect from his days activities; school, track, homework, & football at the vacant lot - until one of his friends takes the greaser-Soc battle too far. Then the ensuing drama unfolds in an inspirational tale that takes place over one week in the characters lives. Black cloth boards are embossed with orange bold type. Page tops are gilt with similar orange ink. An inscription from the original owners."To Emily from Bob, Sept 67" is on the front ends piece. All other pages and text are clean, crisp, and unmarked. The binding is tight, the pages are firm, and there is a very slight cocking to the boards. The DJ is intact with the original price of $3.95 and shows minor dis coloration. The inside lower left corner is clipped. DJ has some edge wear and chipping at extremities but it is intact with no significant tears. As you can see from the images this is a beautiful copy of a very rare book. 8 1/2" Tall x 5 3/4" Wide. Bookseller Inventory # 82
