Item Description: Doubleday & Company, Inc., Garden City, New York, U.S.A., 1974. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good-. 1st Edition Stated. 8vo - over 7¾", up to 9¾" tall. Off-white cloth binding, with green backstrip printed on the spine, green and bright gilt lettering on the spine, deckle fore-edge, green endpapers. Unclipped pictorial dust jacket, now protected in an archival mylar cover, with original $16.95 price on front flap. Overall, the book is in very good (better than average used) condition, with minor wear, but because of the cost we have been careful to list every bit of wear we can find: Spine ends and one fore-corner of the book are slightly bumped, tail of the text block has several light smudges, hinges and head of the text block are slightly soiled, p. 247 has a light crease to its lower corner, previous bookstore's small sticker on the front pastedown, and very faint imprint of a now-erased pencil price on the half title page. Otherwise the book is clean, bright, square, crisp as though it has hardly been read, with extremely tight binding (not shaken in the slightest), sound hinges, sharp corners and no markings. Edges of the dust jacket are lightly bumped, with slight loss at several corners, several very small closed tears (less than 1/16"), three small closed tears (up to 1/4"), and one significant closed tear at the tail of the DJ's spine (1.25" with creasing). The DJ's spine is mildly sun-faded from light green to gray, its rear panel is lightly scuffed, and its front panel is only slightly rubbed. Overall, the DJ is in good-minus (average or slightly worse than average used) condition, but in its brodart it looks good or better. We are happy to take photos upon request. Item Description: Oxford University Press, UK, 2005. Hard Cover. Book Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: As New. First Edition. Paradise Lost by John Milton with special forward by Philip Pullman. SIGNED by Philip Pullman to the main title page. Paradise Lost is one of the greatest epic poems in the English language. It tells the story of the Fall of Man, a tale of immense drama and excitement, of rebellion and treachery, of innocence pitted against corruption, in which God and Satan fight a bitter battle for control of mankind's destiny. The struggle ranges across three worlds - heaven, hell, and earth - as Satan and his band of rebel angels plot their revenge against God. At the centre of the conflict are Adam and Eve, motivated by all too human temptations, but whose ultimate downfall is unyielding love. . Milton's influence has been felt by many writers since, none more so in recent times than the novelist Philip Pullman. His acclaimed trilogy Dark Materials takes its title from a line in the poem, and the worlds he created for Lyra and Will have entranced readers across generations. His introduction to the poem is a tribute that is personal and full of insight; his enthusiasm for Milton's language, skill, and supreme gifts as a storyteller is infectious and instructive. He encourages readers above all to experience the poem for themselves, and surrender to its enchantment. A superbly presented book in as new condition. None priceclipped and with images from the signing. Fine in wrappers. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Signed by Author. Bookseller Inventory # 005023
