Item Description: Ignatius Press, San Francisco, 1989. Trade Paperback. Book Condition: Very Good. Trade Paperback Edition. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. PERSONAL RECOLLECTIONS OF JOAN OF ARC BY THE SIEUR LOUIS DE CONTE (HER PAGE AND SECRETARY), FREELY TRANSLATED OUT OF THE ANCIENT FRENCH INTO MODERN ENGLISH FROM THE ORIGINAL UNPUBLISHED MANUSCRIPT IN THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES OF FRANCE BY JEAN FRANCOIS ALDEN (full title). 452 pages. A book by the author of THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN and LETTERS FROM EARTH. First published in Harper's magazine, in 1895. Allegedly, a translation of a Sieur Louis de Conte's memoirs--the one and only person to witness Joan's visions, her military genius and her trial. It took some time for the public to recognize the work's true author. Twain admired Joan of Arc and her unique place in history. In effect, he had spent 12 years working on his research and had made several attempts to get the story right prior to publishing it. A near fine copy in wrappers, Mild wear on its corners and along its edges. Fine text. No reading or folding creases 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Bookseller Inventory # 013606
