A favorite of conspiracy theorists, Dulles was forced to resign as Director of the CIA by President Kennedy after the Bay of Pigs fiasco. On November 29, 1963, President Johnson appointed Dulles to the Warren Commission. Item Description: Austin: Self-published, 1963. 1st ed., 1963. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. 8vo. 20 pp. printed rectos only. Original white cloth printed in black. INSCRIBED on the front free endpaper: "To Bert Thompson — My good friend! Waggoner 12-15-64." This book is the summary written by the Texas Attorney General, Waggoner Carr, about the state of Texas' independent investigation into the assassination of JFK and wounding of Connally. Laid into the rear (originally stapled in) is a TLS, folded in half, from Carr to Thompson on Carr's official State of Texas letterhead and dated December 18, 1964: "Dear Bert: I thought you might like to have a permanently bound copy of the Texas Supplemental Report on the assassination of President Kennedy for your library. This is being sent to you with my personal compliments and was not printed at state expense. I continue to be deeply grateful to you for all of the help and assistance you have been to me. . .Yours sincerely, Waggoner" It is not known how many copies of the report Carr had bound but it clearly was not a great number. The covers have light soil and the text block shows evidence of dampness (slight discoloration of paste downs and page waviness). The letter has a stain at the fold which also has a 2" tear. Very good minus. An important association copy of a very scarce Kennedy assassination document. Inscribed by Author(s). Bookseller Inventory # 10598

Item Description: 1964. New York: McGraw Hill. First edition. Stout octavo. Gilt decorated cloth. Edges are lightly yellowed with some light soiling. Top edge has some staining. Lower cloth edge has a faint stain from possible moisture exposure not affecting the interior. Cloth is faintly soiled and scuffed. Lower edge of a few pages have a tiny tear and crease. Text has some ink underlining else very good in lightly soiled and yellowed shelfworn dustjacket with a short closed tear to the top front panel. Front flap has a crease else good. Previous owner's naem in red ink at top front fly. Laid into this copy of the this exhaustive and now classic report on the assasination of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy in 1963 are three TWX printouts, the first two on yellow hole punched printout paper with a name in ink and dated Octoer 21, 1975 as follows: 1) A message sent "completing the list of present locations of Warren Commission staffers" and listing Francis W.H. Adams, Joseph A. Ball, Leon D. Hubert and Melvin Eisenberg. 2) A note concerning the current position of Warren Commission staffer Wesley Lieber as a law teacher at U.C.L.A. with his current telephone number and 3) A lengthy message sent from Santa Barbara, California concerning the alledged plot to assasinate former President Gerald Ford with mention of Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme who it mentions had no connection with the plot that this message refers to. This message is somewhat faded but quite readable on plain printout paper which is edge yellowed with a few tiny edge tears. All three messages have been folded at least once. A somewhat interesting collection of Kennedy and Ford assasination related ephemera laid into the classic book on the Kennedy assasination with the introduction by Harrison Salisbury. Reading is one of the great pleasures in life. About this book: Profiles in Courage is a 1957 Pulitzer Prize-winning volume of short biographies describing acts of bravery and integrity by eight United States Senators throughout the Senate's history. The book profiles senators who crossed party lines and/or defied the opinion of their constituents to do what they felt was right and suffered severe criticism and losses in popularity because of their actions. It begins with a quote from Edmund Burke on the courage of the English Statesman, Charles James Fox, in his 1783 attack upon the tyranny of the East Indian Company in the House of Commons. The book was widely celebrated and became a best seller. John F. Kennedy is credited as its author, but there are credible allegations that most of it was the work of his speechwriter, Theodore Sorensen. Kennedy was elected to the House of Representatives in 1946 for the state of Massachusetts. In 1953, he was elected the junior Senator from Massachusetts, and served in the Senate until he was elected president in 1960. It was a passage from Herbert Agar's book The Price of Union about an act of courage by an earlier senator from Massachusetts, John Quincy Adams, that gave Kennedy the idea of writing about senatorial courage. He showed the passage to Sorensen and asked him to see if he could find some more examples. This Sorensen did, and eventually they had enough not just for an article, as Kennedy had originally envisaged, but a book.[2] With help from research assistants and the Library of Congress, Kennedy wrote the book while bedridden during 1954 and 1955, recovering from back surgery.
