Item Description: London: Robert Hale Limited, 1960, 1960. Octavo. Original black cloth, titles to spine in green and silver. With the dust jacket. Spine very slightly creased and rolled, a few small spots to edges. An excellent copy in the price-clipped and rubbed jacket with creased edges. First UK edition (originally published 1959 by Simon & Schuster, New York), first impression. This copy is inscribed by the author on the title page, "all good wishes - Robert Bloch", includes a signed excerpt leaf (for the opening of the novel) tipped in at the front, and has the bookplate of Australian writer and film-maker John Baxter. The inscription was more likely made out to Bloch's thriller-writer friend Joseph Vernon Shea, as this copy includes a lengthy and literary typed letter signed "Bob" addressed to him, in which Bloch sardonically discusses the recent success of Anatomy of a Murder (as "a juicy sex crime"), and goes on to discuss, with keen interest, the "teen-agers" of the new teen-age. Scarce inscribed, and desirable thus with such characteristic ephemera. Bookseller Inventory # 81881

Item Description: Simon and Schuster, New York, 1959. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. FIRST EDITION of Bloch's masterpiece, the basis for the classic Alfred Hitchcock film. "There was a murder case in a small Wisconsin town near the one where I lived -- I had no details concerning it at the time, but I knew that it involved a middle-aged man who murdered several women. Realizing how much gossip there is in a small town and how neighbors tend to pry into every else's affairs, I wondered just what kind of man, and what circumstances, might be involved in such a crime without anyone suspecting, working from these questions, I came up with the plot of PSYCHO. Years later I learned that I'd come pretty close to the actual situation, as brought out after investigations were completed -- except that the actual murderer was also a cannibal, and even more disturbed than my imaginary character" (Robert Bloch). New York: Simon and Schuster, 1959. Octavo, original half-cloth, original dust jacket. Browning to paper as always (poor paper stock); just a hint of edgewear to beautiful dust jacket. An outstanding copy. $2800. Bookseller Inventory # 37

Item Description: London Robert Hale 1960, 1960. First English Edition. The basis of the superior Hollywood thriller, Psycho, directed by Alfred Hitchcock. The dust jacket of the American edition is a rather simple typographical design, whereas, what sets this British first edition apart is the surreal colorful jacket illustration with the purple-tinted profile of the brutally slashed victim, Mary Crane (memorably portrayed by Janet Leigh in the film), the hazy image of the spooky Bates house in the background, and the figure of the tormented murderer, Norman Bates (Anthony PerkinÕs most recognized role), in the foreground. Item Description: BCA - Book Club Associates, London, 1983. Hardcover. Book Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. FIRST THUS EDITION. 1983 (1959). LONDON. First Bookclub Associates Edition with original ominous, controversial DJ with nude, bloodied legs hanging out from behind a shower curtain. This edition was printed in London 24 years after Bloch first published this landmark piece that ultimately changed film-making thanks to Hitchcock. SIGNED by Robert Bloch directly to his own personal bookplate of a skeleton holding books with a Large RB in the corner. Just below the illustration, Robert Bloch signed his name in red ink. A rare, attractive hand-signed bookplate loosely laid in. DJ is very attractive with only tiny, minor wear to a couple of DJ corners. DJ has a few tiny textural impressions that are not obtrusive but apparent should you tilt the DJ in certain lighting. Black cloth is bright and clean with silver lettering to spine. Pages are bright white and tight. If the corners were a tad sharper, this edition would be FINE. An incredible opportunity to own a classic edition with an old, original and personal bookplate of Robert Bloch. NF/VG+. Bookseller Inventory # 000395
