Bohdan Boychuk was born in 1927, in Western Ukraine. He emigrated to the United States in 1949, after enduring a Nazi forced-labor camp. From the library of poet David Ignatow (who collaborated on the translation of these poems, and contributes an eight-line blurb to back cover). Inscribed by Bohdan Boychuk to David Ignatow, in year of publication: "For David, inspired by his works, grateful for this work- Bohdan 21.V.89." Mark Rudman contributes an eight-page introduction, and collaborated with David Ignatow and the author, in translating the poems from the original Ukranian.
