(xxx), 375p, Illustrated by 98 Photographs after engravings from the Boydell gallery, plus frontispiece (statue of Shakespeare) and round vignette on title page. All photographs are remarquably sharp, contrasty and unfaded. They could have been printed yesterday. Each photograph was meticulously mounted on a single sided page, with detailed descriptions of the scene and credits to the original artist and engraver on the opposite page. Rules around each text page and each photograph. Bound in red decorative clothwith a gilt impression of Shakespeare on the front board. Binding discolored in places, and spine is cracked. Occasional foxing, esp. at the beginning, but most photos and mount are clean. Overall a good copy of a very scarce title, remarquable for the quantity and quality of its photographic illustrations.

Marbled endpapers and all edges marbelised. Some scuffing to the leather, and some wear to ends, but a strong and solid binding. The inside is in a very good to fine condition, pages and photographs bright and clean with absolutely no foxing. Overall a Very Good+ copy of a very scarce title, remarquable for the quantity and quality of its photographic illustrations.

Hector John Graham-Toler, 2nd Earl of Norbury was born on 27 June 1781.1 He was the son of John Toler, 1st Earl of Norbury and Grace Graham, Baroness Norwood of Knockalton. He married Elizabeth Brabazon, daughter of William Brabazon and Elizabeth Phibbs, on 1 January 1808. He died on 3 January 1839 at age 57 at Durrow Abbey, Tullamore, County Offaly, Ireland, shot dead by his butler.OCLC Number : 82919611.Engraved t.p. partly in script, signed: Tomkins, script.; Halliwell sculptA descriptive index and alphabetical list of the plates are prefixed.
