Item Description: Steidl, 2015. Book Condition: Used. This Book is in Good Condition. Clean Copy With Light Amount of Wear. 100% Guaranteed. Summary: "The Decisive Moment" originally titled "Images a la Sauvette"-is one of the most famous books in the history of photography, assembling Cartier-Bresson's best work from his early years. Published in 1952 by Simon and Schuster, New York, in collaboration with Editions Verve, Paris, it was lavishly embellished with a collage cover by Henri Matisse. The book and its images have since influenced generations of photographers. Its English title has defined the notion of the famous formal peak in which all elements in the photographic frame accumulate to form the perfect image. Paired with the artist's humanist viewpoint, Cartier-Bresson's photography has become part of the world's collective memory. This new publication is a meticulous facsimile of the original book. It comes with an additional booklet containing an essay on the history of "The Decisive Moment" by Centre Pompidou curator Clement Cheroux. Bookseller Inventory # ABE_book_usedgood_3869307889

Item Description: New York: Simon & Schuster. First American edition. Small folio. Decorated paper covered boards by Henri Matisse. Edges are faintly tanned as usual. Extremities have some light wear to the extremities. Lower portion of spine is just starting. Backstrip has a crease very good in matching dustjacket (also with the Henri Matisse cutout design) with some faint soiling and with the usual tanning. Top left hand corner of front panel of dustjacket is lacking a two inch square fragment. Front panel is partially separated from the backstrip which lacks a few small fragments. Previous owner has attempted to strengthen the rear spine joint with cello tape. Top front panel has two closed cat (?) scratches else very good and still a very nice tight copy of Henri Cartier-Bresson's seminal collection of his now most well-known and often reproduced photographs which also includes his essay concerning his thoughts and ideas on photography and his "decisive moment" philosophy. Reproductions in gorgeous gravure. A very nice and much better than usually encountered copy of a book notorious for it's fragility due to poor binding and often found lacking the dustjacket and very often, the spine of the book. A much sought after title and a landmark book in the history of photographic publishing. Rare in this nice condition with the book covers and page edges so nice and bright. A wonderful copy of this scarce (especially when signed by the artist) catalog of Henri Cartier-Bresson drawings coupled with a wonderful copy ("The Decisive Moment") of Henri Cartier-Bresson's seminal collection of his now most well-known and often reproduced photographs which also includes his essay concerning his thoughts and ideas on photography and his "decisive moment" philosophy. Reproductions in gorgeous gravure. A much sought after title and a landmark book in the history of photographic publishing. One of the most important and influential photography books ever published. Rare in this beautiful condition. A great book. Bookseller Inventory # 11968

Item Description: Simon and Schuster, 1952. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Cartier Bresson (illustrator). 1st Edition. Folio. Cartier Bresson's magnificent classic photobook in the original jacket. Large, (10 by 15) folio size, published by Simon & Schuster/ Editions Verve 1952, caption booklet laid in. Decorated paper covered boards and jacket illustration by Matisse. Book nice clean, bright, tightly bound, square, spine vg with just a little roughness at the edges else about VG+ & better than 95% we've seen. Jacket, bright, complete unclipped, handling/soiling wear, a couple of darker spots & a small thin faint red mark on back cover, some edge wear with a 1 1/2" piece out at spine bottom (not very noticible when on book as the jacket repeats the book illustration.) else about VG+, again better than 95% we've seen listed. This is a large & fragile book notoriously hard to find without spine flaws or jacket problems, this copy is very good indeed. The caption booklet has a darkened spine & some small tape here and there, the spine has pin holes as though it was bound in to something at one time, it's just a few pages which basically repeats the captions inside the book. 'The Decisive Moment' is quite simply one of the greatest of all photobooks the size and deep gravure reproduction makes these superb photos just stunning and one has to see a copy to appreciate the glory of this book. One of the great classics. The standard shipping rates will need to be adjusted on this title due to size, weight and price. Bookseller Inventory # 0006221
