Good/Very good. Jacket is nicked and rubbed with some splitting and tape "repairs" at the folds. Attached to the front pastedown is the following letter from the author "May 9 1943 / Mrs. Robert _____ / My dear Mrs. _____ / I am so grateful to / you for bringing around the snapshots Bob / took - I didn't get to know him until / a moment before he went off to / Shanghai, but I liked him a very / great deal - he is a real good / soul. / I'm so I've been so rushed - / the few free hours are gone before / I know it is a new day is on / hand, with a sleepy writer trying / to get through it. / When you write Bob give / him my best + even though we / haven't met the same to you from my / wife and myself / William Saroyan." The letter is on The Lombardy [Hotel] letterhead. Attached to the recto of the front free endsheet are two original (4" by 2 1/2") black and white photographs of William Saroyan in his Army Uniform. In one of the photographs he is smoking with three other GIs in front of a fence. In the other he appears to be signing a book. There is a third photograph of Saroyan smiling that is attached to the copyright page. Beneath the photograph is the following inscription: "For a fellow soldier / with warm regards / to Bob ____ / with the best of luck / always sincerely / Bill Saroyan / May 9, 1943 nyc." Presumably these three photographs are the same as those mentioned in the letter. A nice association copy from the author to a fellow soldier. Bookseller Inventory # 30548
