Book Description: J.B. Lippincott Company 1890, 1890. FIRST MAGAZINE APPEARANCE, pp.144, with portrait frontispiece of the author. The first printing of the complete novel published here in 12 chapters, pre-dating the UK edition. Bound by Ramage in near contemporary half red calf over cloth boards, spine gilt-panelled in six compartments with raised bands, t.e.g. Bookplate to pastedown, spine pleasingly sunned. Near fine, with both wrappers and all advertisements carefully preserved at rear. Uncommon to find this title in an old leather binding.
