Add to basketHard Back. Condition: Very Good. 406 pages Beige boards decorated A bright edition of The Poems and Plays of Oliver Goldsmith, complete in one volume. Oliver Goldsmith, d. 1774, was an Anglo-Irish writer, poet, and physician who was known for his novels, poems and plays. In 1744 Goldsmith went up to Trinity College, Dublin. He graduated in 1749 as a Bachelor of Arts, but his education seemed to have given him mainly a taste for fine clothes, playing cards, singing Irish airs and playing the flute. He settled in London in 1756, where he held various jobs, including apothecary's assistant. Perennially in debt and addicted to gambling, Goldsmith produced a massive output as a hack writer for the publishers of London, but his few painstaking works earned him the company of Samuel Johnson. Goldsmith was described by contemporaries as prone to envy, a congenial but impetuous and disorganised personality who once planned to emigrate to America but failed because he missed his ship. Henry Austin Dobson, 1840 1921, commonly Austin Dobson, was an English poet and essayist. He was well-known for his contemporary biographies, as well as his poetical output.
