Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. The is a first edition from the classics series published by International Collectors Library in 1970. The Robe is a 1942 historical novel about the Crucifixion of Jesus, written by the American minister Lloyd C. Douglas. The book explores the aftermath of the crucifixion of Jesus through the experiences of the Roman tribune. It was a massive best-seller for several years, but is best-known for its 1953 adaptation starring Richard Burton. This is a lovely book. It is red leatherette. It has a gilt design on the cover and spine and a bound-in silk bookmark. The original owner put a bookplate on the inside front cover and then crossed out his/her name. You can either put a label over that or steam off the bookplate. Other than that, it's in absolutely pristine condition. There are no marks in or on it; I don't believe that it's been read; it doesn't appear to have been opened.

Near fine in a very good dust jacket. (Front cover nearly detached from flap. Edge tears & shallow chipping at crest of spine on jacket. Light soiling to jacket. ) Uncommon. Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. The Robe. Signed by author Lloyd Douglas. [1942] first edition/fourth printing; Houghton Mifflin; good hardcover [perhaps married with a slightly later jacket]. Inscribed to "Helen Ford" on flyleaf verso. A remarkable scarce signed book by the writer who inspired generations with spiritual fiction and nonfiction. Brickred cloth hardcover with rubbing to backstrip and edgewear; open tear at back joint; otherwise moderate external handling wear. Black topstain indicative of first edition copies; unmarked internally other than inscription. Jacket appears a few millimeters small for the volume; housed in archival cover with original price of $2.75. Wear at folds and edges; general handling wear. The jacket may indeed be the one issued and has just over time lost crispness and become offset. The first printing was $2.50, so the original price is plausible and the jacket is the first edition issue. Signed by Illustrator(s).
