Item Description: Doubleday, New York, 1978. First edition of the author's fourth novel. Thick octavo, original half cloth. Signed by Stephen King on the title page. Fine (without the usual sag associated with this bulky volume) in an excellent dust jacket that shows light toning to the spine. "I love to burn things up," King says. "It's the werewolf in me, I guess. The Stand was particularly fulfilling, because there I got a chance to scrub the whole human race, and man, it was fun! . Much of the compulsive, driven feeling I had while I worked on The Stand came from the vicarious thrill of imagining an entire entrenched social order destroyed in one stroke." "There is much to admire in The Stand: the vivid thumbnail sketches with which King populates a whole landscape with dozens of believable characters; the deep sense of nostalgia for things left behind; the way it subverts our sense of reality by showing us a world we find familiar, then flipping it over to reveal the darkness underneath. Anyone who wants to know, or claims to know, the heart of the American experience needs to read this book" (Fiona Webster). Bookseller Inventory # 4281

Item Description: Doubleday, New York, 1990. Full-Leather. Book Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. Bernie Wrightson (illustrator). 1st Edition. First edition thus, FORGED LETTERED STATE. Signed by King and Bernie Wrightson, the book's illustrator. This book was originally limited to 52 LETTERED copies and 1,250 NUMBERED copies. With about 20 out-of-series (unlettered and unnumbered) copies produced to provide back-up in case of damage to in-series copies. This copy was one of the rare (20 or less) out-of-series back-up copies to which someone added the letters "AP" to the limitation page, in an attempt to make this copy look like one of the 52 "LETTERED" copies. The forger did not know that the lettered copies had been marked "A" to "Z" and "AA" to "ZZ". No "AP" copy was ever produced. What we have here is an authentic limited edition, with authentic autographs, but which is a FORGED "LETTERED" state (or an authentic but altered rare out-of-series copy). Bound in full leather, all edges gilt, and housed in a red cloth-lined wooden box with lid. The plate on the lid is in the "black with brass lettering" state. Fine in original glassine dust jacket and fine publisher's box. Signed By Author and Illustrator. Book. Bookseller Inventory # ABE-649940977

Item Description: Doubleday, New York, 1978. Hardcover; 1st Printing. Book Condition: F. 1st Edition. 1st edition/1st printing. Stated First Edition, with the proper T39 code at the lower gutter of the last text page. SIGNED and inscribed by the author on the front end page: 'For Dan, Best, Stephen King 8/22/80'. Fine book: unread and 'very' tight, straight, clean, unworn binding edges and corners, the gilt on the spine is bright and sharp, and the spine itself has none of the concavity or creasing you normally find with this very thick book when it has been read. The page edges are clean, binding corners sharp. The only thing I can find wrong with it at all is that the cloth at the upper spine end has a bit of flexibility to it but isn't limp or crushed. The Fine dustjacket has had 'no' restoration; it is price intact, crisp, clean and unfaded with no chips or tears; it does have an almost unnoticeable very thin vertical fold line to the front flap. This book is most of King fans' favorite, and rightly so. It is a superbly written book about an after-the-apocalypse world when a plague escapes a government lab and kills most of the population, and of the fight between good and evil among the survivors in the U.S. Filmed as a multi-part mini-series for TV. Reissued in 1990 containing the few hundred pages that the publisher made King shorten the book by in 1978. Collector's copy.; 8-7/16" x 5-3/4"; 823 pages; Signed by Author.
