Item Description: A. L. Burt, New York, 1922. Hardcover. Book Condition: Near Fine-. Lansing (Lang) Campbell (illustrator). 1st Edition. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. RARE NOVELTY BOOK, VERY SCARCE TRUE FIRST EDITION, REALLY NICE CONDITION!! Howard Garis & Lang Campbell - TRUE FIRST EDITION, Published in New York by A L Burt. (1922). Green Cloth titled in black ink with full color pictorial pastedown which is actually the 33rd Color Illustration (not a repeat)! A Unique & unusual format for any book of this era. Illustrated with 33 b&w drawings by Lansing Campbell and 32 color plates printed on 16 double sided leaves. The color illustrations are separate from the book and housed in an envelope at the back of the book. The reader was meant to insert the plates in the darker paper frames in each story, using one or the other side to change the ending from one where Wiggily is beaten, the other where his nemesis is! All 16 of the double-sided plates are present, and in Really Nice Condition, with a couple with really tiny closed edge tears, and a couple having faint margin soil only -- stored in the compartment in the rear which is also in tact! The book has light tip wear only, even green color and nice front paste-on. The Interior is Complete, with NO NAMES, MARKS or DAMAGE! No Foxing or darkening of lighter text pages caused by frames.very unusual to be so clean! Needless to say, with the possibilities for damage and loss this book faced for the last 85 years, to be Complete and undamaged is a miracle! NOTE: The collector I received this from had also found a COLOR FRONTIS Illustration (from a 1924 Edition) to replace/augment the Original B&W Frontis (Image #2).consider it as a bonus 33rd Color Plate!! ______________________________________ A VERY RARE BOOK - Scarce as Hen's Teeth - with No problems, just a bit of tip wear. Very Nice!. Bookseller Inventory # 000025

Item Description: Charles Graham, Newark; New York, 1929. Hardcover. Book Condition: Very Good +. Lansing (Lang) Campbell (illustrator). 1st Edition. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. SCARCE FIRST EDITION in the Original Charles Graham Picture Cover Edition, in VERY NICE CONDITION. The covers have good color, just a slight bleed onto complete front paste-on and a bit of rear cover uneven fading, with some very faint spine tip wear. Interior is Complete -- with all 3 stories & all 30 Color Illustrated pages. Solid, with NO NAMES. MARKS or DAMAGE -- Very Clean & Tight for this series. While there are multiple printing dates, this is the FIRST EDITION for this title (1929), and is one of the 6 new 1929 titles (Check list : 6 titles were published per year beginning in 1920, then 1922, 1924, 1927 and 1929). These 1929 titles and the last 4 titles in the series (only 2 new titles were introduced in both 1931 & 1933) were published in increasingly fewer numbers (remember, in the late 1920's the U.S. was already in deep recession leading to the Great Depression we've heard so much about lately.) Well, when the Markets crashed in 1929, so did the publishing houses (as the newspapers are today!). With the exception of the first 6 titles originally issued in the 1920 run with full front paste-on illustrations (Very Scarce), first 18 titles are relatively accessible even in first printing, and were printed numerous times all through the 1920's. But the last 16 get increasingly hard to find as you move down the list to the last tile (#34) done in 1933 -- & alas, In the depths of the Great Depression, the series ended!! Enough history. This is a REALLY Nice, Clean Example of a difficult to find later title, FIRST EDITION. (Done in Original Burgundy Cloth). Bookseller Inventory # 000057

VERY NICE, No Damage, Very Clean for this series! ______________________ Enough history. This is a GREAT BOOK - Clean Example of a difficult to find later title, FIRST PRINTING!!. Bookseller Inventory # 000095
