Item Description: Collector Grade Publications, 2001. Hardcover. Book Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. Second Printing, 350 pages. War Baby Comes Home continues the amazing saga of the U.S. carbine - the most popular military shoulder arm in American history. According to the Director of Military Training, eighty-five percent of the troops in U.S. tactical and operational units were armed with M1 carbines by early 1945. The U.S. Army jealously guarded its 'critical' supply of carbines during the war, but with peace distributed this universally popular arm lavishly among allies and ertswhile enemies alike. With the termination of the carbine manufacturing program in 1945, the ongoing task of maintaining and refurbishing the nations's carbines and the manufacture of new spare parts and further experimental developments devolved upon Springfield Armory. The popularity of the carbine is further attested to by the large number of official military accessories and ancillaries which were produced and fielded in its support, as well as the numerous types of .30 caliber cartidges developed for the carbine. In the 1950s, International Aid distribution of U.S. military carbines abroad and the consequent availability of large stocks of .30 caliber carbine ammunition spawned the development of several interesting foreign weapons, some direct 'clones' of the U.S. carbine itself, but others of completely different designs which had in common only the .30 carbine cartridge. An outstanding reference. Bookseller Inventory # 4741

Item Description: Collector Grade Publications, 2006. Hardcover. Book Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. Fourth Printing, 495 pages. Hardcover with a dust jacket. Exceptionally detailed. Almost 400 illustrations. A yearlong contest amongst America's military and civilian gun designers led to the adoption of a last-minute Winchester entry as "US Carbine, Caliber .30, M1" in October, 1941. From the first trickle of 'Inlands" in June, 1942 through to a combined production peak of over 500,000 units per month in December, 1943, over six million carbines were manufactured, by a total of ten prime contractors, until program termination in 1945. War Baby! is an in-depth account of the carbine's production history, component variations, production methods, subcontractors, and markings. Perhaps most importantly, the INTEGRATION of components among the prime contractors, a process often resorted to during wartime to keep production moving, is addressed in detail; so don't trade off that "incorrect" carbine until you read what Larry Ruth has to say in this book! An outstanding reference. Bookseller Inventory # 4379

Item Description: Collector Grade Publications, 2013. Hardcover. Book Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. 1st Edition. 952 pages. Over 1,300 illustrations, many in color. A huge, heavy volume. The most popular military small arm in U.S. history has been the subject of a number of books, perhaps the most important of which are the perennially popular War Baby! and War Baby Comes Home. Both have been reprinted numerous times. Today, over seventy years since the birth of the U.S. carbine in 1941, interest in it has not only not abated, but has increased phenomenally. In addition to the over six million military carbines which were manufactured during World War II, over one million commercial examples have been made or assembled since 1960. Since the initial publication of the War Baby series over two decades ago, the author has continued to research all aspects of the carbine program. He has thus acquired a great deal of new information, which takes the form of amendments and additions to existing material as well as new, previously unpublished data and illustrations. Taking into account the thousands of copies of the first two War Baby volumes already in circulation, we have decided not to revise them but to leave them as they are, and present all this new material here. Accordingly, each of the original 41 chapters in the to initial volumes is revisitied in a new chapter set, numbered from 101 to 141, each containing all the amendments and additions pertinent to the original chapter. A comprehensive Index covering all three volumes in the series appears at the end of this book. An outstanding new collector reference. Bookseller Inventory # 4996

Item Description: Collector Grade Publications, Cobourg, Ontario, Canada, 2013. Hardcover. Book Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. Deluxe First Edition, 2013. The U.S. Carbine the most popular military small arm in U.S. history has been the subject of a number of books, the most important of which are the perennially popular Collector Grade titles WAR BABY! (first published in 1992) and WAR BABY Comes Home (first published in 1993). Both have been reprinted numerous times, and both remain available. The author himself explains the rationale for this new third volume as follows: Over the past twenty years, since the publication of the two original volumes, I have continued to research the carbine program, collecting data and lore, while promising myself, my family and fellow collectors that a third volume, containing the results of these endeavors, would be forthcoming. As this third volume came closer to becoming a reality, analysis showed that the fruits of my labors could basically be divided into two main groups: revisions and additions to the information already included in the two initial volumes; and brand-new material that had not been available when the original volumes went to press. The question then arose as to how to present this material. Taking into account the thousands of copies of the first two volumes already in circulation, we have decided not to revise them but to leave them as they are, and present all the new and revised material in this separate third volume. Along with hundreds of crisp, clear color images, WAR BABY III contains twenty years¿ worth of new information on the six million-plus military carbines manufactured during World War II, and the over one million commercial carbines made or assembled since 1960. A comprehensive Index of all three. Bookseller Inventory # 002027
