First Edition. 146pp. Bound in dark, pebble-grain cloth, gilt cover title. 7.5" x 5" "Narrated by Miller's pseudonymous "Thomas Taylor," this book was written to induce settlement of the Dakota Territory, based on his four years of experience there. "A handbook for prospective emigrants to the Northwest, just barely presented as a fictional narrative. The narrator and his wife move from Illinois to a 160-acre homestead on the Dakota plains. Despite setbacks and mistakes, they are successful, as is explained down to the last penny.
