Book Description: Methuen & Co, London, 1926. First trade edition, first printing, of the second volume of Milne';s celebrated "Christopher Robin" books, following the adventures of Edward Bear, a.k.a. Winnie-the-Pooh, and his friends in the Hundred Acre Wood: "It's a very funny thought that, if Bears were Bees, / They'd build their nests at the bottom of trees. / And that being so (if the Bees were Bears), / We shouldn't have to climb up all these stairs." Inspired by Milne's son Christopher Robin and the boy';s collection of stuffed animals, all four volumes of the series -- When We Were Very Young (1924), Winnie-the-Pooh (1926), Now We Are Six (1927), and The House at Pooh Corner (1928) -- were immediate bestsellers upon publication. This first trade edition of Winnie-the-Pooh was published simultaneously with a signed limited edition of two hundred copies. A very good example of a classic of modern children';s literature. Octavo, publisher';s green pictorial cloth stamped in gilt, cartographic endpapers, top edge gilt, original unclipped pictorial dust jacket. Illustrated throughout with black-and-white line drawings. Bookplate to front pastedown. Corners lightly bumped; faint dampstain to lower corner of text block; tiny chips and closed tears to spine ends and corners of jacket with lightest smudging.
