Book
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Second Edition. The Golden Library No. 29 - second printing of this edition - 'Reset to conform to the War Economy Standard 1942' stated on the printer's page, in the original and fragile thin gold dustwrapper. The book was first published by William Heinemann in 1924, and then reprinted by Chatto & Windus in 1932 and 1935. First issued in the Golden Library in November 1941, and reprinted in 1942. ***Very good in brown cloth-covered boards with titles on a gilt panel on the spine. The gilt is still nice and bright, having been protected by the dustwrapper. The boards are clean and unmarked. No creases. No bumps. Top edge of page block stained maroon by the publisher. Corners sharp. Internally the book is also very good with no inscriptions. The interior pages are clean with no foxing. No creases or tears. Spine tight. ***In a very good original dustwrapper, illustrated with a Chatto & Windus falcon on the front panel. The dustwrapper is remarkably complete, considering it is printed on such thin paper - just some slight loss at the top and tail of the spine - not affecting the lettering - and the corner tips. The dustwrapper has a 7/- publisher's label over the original printed price on the spine. Edges of dustwrapper show some creasing and rubbing commensurate with age and handling. Spine of dustwrapper slightly darkened. Dustwrapper bright. ***183 pages. 215mm x 145mm. ***'Margaret Emma Faith Irwin (27 Mar 1889 - 11 Dec 1967) was an English historical novelist. She also wrote a factual biography of Sir Walter Raleigh. Her novels were esteemed for the accuracy of their historical research, and she became a noted authority on the Elizabethan and early Stuart era. One of her novels, "Young Bess" about the early years of Queen Elizabeth I, was made into a film of the same title starring Jean Simmons.' [Wiki] ***A second printing of this edition - 'Reset to conform to the War Economy Standard 1942' stated on the printer's page, in the original and fragile thin gold dustwrapper. A scarce wartime printing of the novel. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.
