She taught Home Economics for three year before she settled into her career in magazines. Dorothy was on staff for the food section of McCall?s Magazine from at least 1928 to 1932. Newspapers across the country reprinted her shorter articles and recipes to fill their columns. Between 1935-1954, she was an editor and then chief of the food section of Woman?s Home Companion (WHC). Besides the magazine, she also edited a few cookbooks for WHC including Woman?s Home Companion Cook Book.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 5th or later Edition. Reddish brown boards with bold black simple lettering for title on the front. End pages foxed and back one slightly folded, otherwise clean with only one owner's name on front end panel. A stain on the top side foredge. Book was definitely used to cook with, but very well taken care of. Bottom of boards shows some fraying from shelf wear. Binding is tight and book is definitely still readable and usable in the kitchen! At 950 pages plus profuse illustrations, some in colorit is a heavy book and depending on destination may require extra postage. Condition overall especially for age better than most cookbooks we encounter. LAID-IN : Bookmark advertising "Dr Schilling Coiled Spring Health Preserving Elastic Section Corset".
